Big 12 Standings

The 2010 Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team finished the season 21–11, 9–7 in Big 12 play to finish in a tie for fifth place. They were invited to the 2010 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament where they defeated Nebraska in the first round before losing to eventual tournament champion Kansas State in the quarterfinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Wake Forest

The Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team represents The University of Texas at Austin in NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s basketball. The Longhorns currently compete in the Big 12 Conference.

The university began varsity intercollegiate competition in men’s basketball in 1906. Fred Ashmore is credited with the first basket, a free throw in Longhorn Basketball History which occurred in a game against Lamar University on November 15, 1906. The Longhorns rank as the third winningest men’s college basketball program of all-time, with 1,304 wins through the 2010–11 season. Their all-time record is 1–2 against Kentucky as of December 21, 2010; the two schools have met three times in NCAA Tournament play, with each winning once on the other’s home court Texas has reached twenty NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Final Fours (3rd all time), and has made ten appearances in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship game (4th all time), winning eight games (tied for 4th all time). From 1967 to 1977 (11 seasons), the Longhorns had an impressive run of 31 consecutive made NCAA tournament appearances led by American Airlines Center Head coach Abe Lemons, who then took over for legendary Texas head coach Darrell Royal after his retirement to direct labor negotiations for public school teachers within the state of Texas.

Longhorn Network

The Longhorn Network is a subscription television network that is owned by ESPN and the University of Texas at Austin. The network, which launched on August 26, 2011, focuses on the Texas Longhorns varsity sports teams of the university. The network also features academic and cultural programming from the university’s campus.

Texas Basketball History

The Texas Longhorns basketball team is one of the most successful programs in NCAA history. They have won five National Championships and appeared in more Final Fours than any other team in the country. The Longhorns have also produced some of the greatest players in college basketball history, including NBA legends like Kevin Durant LaMarcus Aldridge, and T.J. Ford.

The 2010 Texas Longhorns roster was one of the most talented teams in school history. Led by future NBA players Durant and Aldridge, the Longhorns won the Big 12 regular season championship and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament They would ultimately lose to eventual National Champion Duke in the Sweet Sixteen but this team cemented their place among the all-time great Texas basketball squads.
