2014 NBA Draft Class Could Be One for the Ages

With the 2014 NBA Draft class, we could be witnessing one of the most stacked groups of young talent the league has ever seen. Players like Andrew Wiggins Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid and Julius Randle have the potential to not only be franchise cornerstones, but also potential All-Stars and even MVPs down the road.

It’s no secret that Wiggins and Parker are the two headliners of this class. Wiggins, who was born in Toronto, is a 6’8” small forward with phenomenal athleticism and a developing jump shot He’s been hyped up as the next big thing since he was in High School and his one year at Kansas only served to solidify that hype. Parker, on the other hand, is a 6’8” Power Forward who played his college ball at Duke. He’s an incredibly polished scorer who can shoot from long range, put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim. He’s also a very good rebounder and has shown an ability to play some defense.

While Wiggins and Parker will almost certainly be the top two picks in the draft, it’s Embiid who has the potential to be the best player in this class. Embiid is a 7’0” center from Cameroon who only began playing basketball a few years ago. Despite his lack of experience, he’s already an excellent shot blocker and rebounder with great footwork and touch around the basket. His biggest weakness right now is his health, as he missed large portions of his freshman season at Kansas due to a back injury. If he can stay healthy, though, he has all the tools to be a dominant force in the NBA for years to come.

Randle rounds out this group of potential superstars. Randle is a 6’9” power forward who did his damage at Kentucky. He’s an excellent rebounder with a knack for scoring in traffic and an improving Jump Shot He has some defensive shortcomings that will need to be addressed at the next level, but he has all the makings of a very good player in this league for many years to come.

The 2014 NBA draft class has potential to be one of the best we’ve ever seen. With so many talented players available, it’ll be fascinating to see how it all plays out come June 26th

The 2014 NBA Draft class is turning out to be one for the ages. With a potential once-in-a-generation talent like Andrew Wiggins leading the way, this year’s draft could end up being remembered as one of the best ever.

Of course, it’s still early and Wiggins has yet to play a single NBA game But the early indications are that he has all the tools to be a superstar. He’s got incredible athletic ability, he’s long and he can shoot the ball. If he can put it all together, there’s no telling how good he could be.

Joining Wiggins at the top of the draft class is Jabari Parker, another incredibly talented young player Parker is a bit more polished than Wiggins at this point, but he doesn’t have quite the same upside. Still, he’s an excellent scorer and rebounder who should be able to make an immediate impact in the NBA.

Rounding out the top three is Joel Embiid a Cameroonian big man who has only been playing basketball for a few years. Embiid is an elite level talent, but his inexperience shows at times. He’s still raw and makes too many mistakes on both ends of the court. But his upside is immense and he could ultimately end up as the best player in this draft class

The rest of the 2014 NBA draft class is loaded with potential as well. Players like Julius Randle Dante Exum and Doug McDermott all have star potential and should be able to contribute right away. It’s going to be fascinating to see how these players develop over the next few years and if they can live up to their lofty expectations.
