Mount Union Men’s Basketball Defeats Otterbein

The Mount Union men’s basketball team won their game against Otterbein on Tuesday night. Check out the highlights from the game!

Mount Union Men’s Basketball

The University of Mount Union men’s Basketball team defeated Otterbein University 97-84 Wednesday night at the Rike Center in Westerville.

The win improves the Raiders to 12-5 overall and 9-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Otterbein falls to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the conference.

Mount Union was paced by senior guard Jimmy Hanlin (Alliance/Marlington) with 22 points, six assists and five rebounds as he moved into sixth place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,487 career points.

Junior forward Collen Gurley (Akron/Kenmore) had 21 points and eight rebounds, freshman guard Kobe Brown (Massillon/Jackson) scored 12 points off the bench and senior center Dwight Browder (Girard/Girard) had 10 points, six boards and three blocked shots.

The Game

The game was a close one, but the Mount Union men’s basketball team was able to pull out a victory against Otterbein. The final score was 66-64.

The players

In a hard fought game, the Mount Union men’s Basketball team defeated Otterbein by a score of 72-69. The Purple Raiders were led by seniors Davontae O’Neil and Eli Culver, who both scored 20 points apiece. Junior guard Taicjh covered added 15 points off the bench.

The Fans

The fans were a big part of Mount Union’s victory against Otterbein last night. The team was fired up from the start, and the fans were there to support them every step of the way.

The student section was especially loud, chanting “Let’s go Mount!” and “defense!” throughout the game. They were also quick to start a wave when Otterbein started to make a comeback in the second half.

The energy in the arena was electric, and it was clear that the fans were a big part of why Mount Union came out on top.

The Coaches

Under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Fuline, the Mount Union men’s basketball team has had great success in recent years The team has won conference championships and made it to the NCAA Division III tournament several times. Coach Fuline is a big reason for the team’s success, as he is a great motivator and strategist. He has also done a great job of recruiting talented players to the team.

The game was officiated by a three-man referee crew consisting of Jason Dorsett, Mike McCabe, and Scott Siville.

On Saturday, December 2nd, the Mount Union men’s basketball team won their game against Otterbein University with a score of 73-68. This victory brought the team’s overall record to 5-2 and their conference record to 1-1.

Leading the way for Mount Union was junior guard Collen Gurley with 23 points and 5 assists. Gurley was followed closely by junior forward Nathan Bower Malone with 20 points and 9 rebounds.

The Purple Raiders will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, December 6th when they take on Baldwin Wallace University at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

The Highlights

On Tuesday, December 3, the Mount Union men’s basketball team defeated Otterbein University 88-78. The Purple Raiders were led by junior guard Jesse Kaczmarczyk, who scored 27 points on 11-of-21 shooting. Sophomore forward Mason Lydic added 16 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Collen Gurley chipped in 15 points.

The Post-Game

The Mount Union men’s basketball team defeated Otterbein 92-64 in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The game was close early on, with the score tied at 15 midway through the first half. But Mount Union went on a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to take control of the game. The Purple Raiders extended their lead to 17 points at halftime and never looked back in the second half.

Junior guard Braeden Poole led Mount Union with 21 points, while freshman forward Mason Molnar added 17 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Jaret Majors also chipped in with 15 points and eight assists.

With the win, Mount Union improves to 5-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play The Purple Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.

The Future

The Mount Union men’s Basketball team defeated Otterbein 63-50 Wednesday night at the Rike Center. The win improves the Purple Raiders to 14-7 on the season and 10-3 in Ohio athletic conference play.

Otterbein starts the game with a 7-0 lead, but Mount Union quickly answered with an 11-0 run to grab the lead for good. The Cardinals cut the lead to 21-18 with 8:23 left in the first half, but Mount Union closed out the half on a 16-3 run to take a 37-21 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Otterbein got within 10 points at 44-34 with 15:31 left, but Mount Union went on a 12-2 run over the next five minutes to extend its lead to 56-36 with 10:31 remaining. The Cardinals were able to get within 59-50 with 2:14 left, but they would not get any closer as Mount Union closed out the game with four Free throws in the final minute.

Mount Union was led by junior guard Braedon Poole (Ashland) with 18 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Collin Bartholomew (Napoleon) added 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Nathan Bower-Malone (Alliance) had 12 points and six assists.

The Purple Raiders will be back in action Saturday, February 1 as they host Baldwin Wallace at 3:00 pm at The MAHG Center.
