The Top 5 Orange NBA jerseys of All Time
In no particular order, here are the top 5 orange NBA jerseys of all time:
1. The Charlotte Hornets’ teal and purple jersey from the early 1990s is a true classic.
2. The Orlando Magic’s black and blue jersey from the mid-2000s is a true classic.
3. The Houston Rockets’Clutch city jersey from the late 1990s is iconic.

The Top 5 Orange NBA jerseys of All Time: Part 2
Readers of my first column on the top 5 orange NBA jerseys of all time inundated me with requests for a sequel, so here it is. The guidelines I used for the original piece still apply: these are the best orange jerseys in NBA history regardless of team success while wearing them. So without further ado, here are the top 5 orange NBA jerseys of all time:
5. 2017-18 Houston Rockets “Clutch City” Alternate Jersey
This jersey is a great example of how a simple but well-executed design can be extremely effective. The basic layout – white with an orange stripe running down the middle – is nothing new, but the way the Rockets executed it, with piping along the sides and a subtle “Clutch City” wordmark in white above the stripe, makes for a sharp and clean look. It’s also worth noting that this was one of two alternate jerseys the Rockets wore during their record-breaking 2017-18 Season which just adds to its legitimacy.
4. 2010-11 New Jersey Nets “Brooklyn” Alternate Jersey
When the Nets moved from New Jersey to Brooklyn prior to the 2012-13 season, they did so with a complete rebrand that included new logos and colors. But prior to that season, they teased their new identity with this alternate jersey, which featured an updated version of their classic circle logo in white with “BROOKLYN” written in bold orange letters above it. The rest of the jersey was traditional Nets stuff – black with white and gray accents – but that logo was enough to make this one of the best orange jerseys in NBA history
3. 2004-05 Orlando Magic “Stars” Alternate Jersey
This is one of those jerseys that you either love or hate; there seems to be no middle ground. I fall firmly in the love camp; I think these were incredibly cool when they came out and I still think they hold up today. The basic idea – an stars pattern printed on an orange jersey – is pretty straightforward, but it’s executed well and looks unique enough to set this jersey apart from anything else that was being worn at the time (or since). Plus, it just screams “Florida!” which is always a bonus in my book.
2. 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team” Jersey
It would be impossible to have a list of the best orange jerseys in NBA history without including at least one entry from Team USA and there are a lot of great ones to choose from. But I went with this1992 jersey worn by the original “Dream Team” not just because it looks great (which it does), but because of what it represents. This was arguably the most influential team in Basketball History and their style – both on and off the court – had a generational impact that can still be felt today. That makes this one ofthe most important jerseys in Basketball History as well as one ofthe best looking ones, which puts it high on my list.
1 . 2003-04 Los Angeles Lakers Alternate Jersey
This is another example of how Simplicity can be key when designing a great looking jersey; sometimes less really is more. This alternate jersey worn by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal during their final season together followed basically the same template as their traditional white home jerseys (which also happen to be among my favorites), but swapped out purple for orange and made a few other minor tweaks (like adding black piping down each side). The result was a sharp-looking jersey that perfectly captured everything that made those Lakers teams so special: style, swagger and dominance.

3. Los Angeles Lakers – 1999-00 NBA Season
With the departure of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant teaming up with newly acquired All-Star center Pau Gasol the Los Angeles Lakers were able to put together one of the most feared trios in NBA history The 1999-00 season was also special because it was the first time that the storied franchise had ever donned an alternate jersey. Kobe and company would go on to win a then-franchise record 67 games en route to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1991.
