Cary Academy’s Basketball team is on the rise. With a strong core of returning players and some key newcomers, the team is poised to make noise in the conference and beyond.
Led by Coach James Foster, the team has high hopes for the season. “We’re excited about our potential,” says Foster. “We’ve got a lot of talent and we’re hungry to prove ourselves.”
The team will be relying on its experienced players to provide leadership and production on the court. Senior guard Matt Jones is one of the team’s top scorers and he will be counted on to provide a spark offensively. Senior forward Benji Nguyen is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything, and he will be critical to the team’s success.
The newcomers will also play a big role in the team’s success. Freshman guard Nathan Smith is an explosive scorer who has the potential to be one of the best players in the conference. Freshman forward Luke Saunders is a big body who can provide rebounding and defense down low.

Cary Academy’s History
Since its founding in 2001, Cary Academy has become one of the most prestigious private schools in North Carolina The school’s basketball team has only been around for half that time, but they have quickly made a name for themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
The team first tasted success in the 2006-2007 season, when they made it to the NCISAA State Tournament for the first time in school history. They followed that up with another State Tournament appearance in 2007-2008, and then made it all the way to the semifinals in 2008-2009.
Since then, the team has experienced some ups and downs, but they seem to be back on the rise. They made it back to the state tournament in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015, and they are currently ranked sixth in the state in the latest USA Today poll.
With a strong core of young players led by junior point guard Jalen Harris, Cary Academy looks poised to make another deep run in the state tournament this season. So keep an eye on this team – they could be raising a banner before too long.
The Team’s Roster
The Cary Academy Varsity Basketball team is composed of 12 young men ranging in age from 14-18 years old. The team has 4 seniors, 6 juniors, and 2 sophomores. This is a team on the rise with numerous talented players. The starting lineup includes:

The Team’s Results
The Cary Academy varsity basketball team has enjoyed a period of success in recent years The team’s current Head Coach is Mark Krywy, who took over the program in the fall of 2016. In his first season at the helm, Coach Krywy led the team to a 21-5 record and a berth in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) 3A state tournament The team’s success continued in 2017-18, as Cary Academy finished with a 23-4 record and made it back to the NCISAA 3A state tournament for the second straight year. Most recently, in 2018-19, the team had another strong campaign, finishing with a 21-7 record and advancing to the NCISAA 3A state semifinals.
The team’s recent success can be attributed to a number of factors. First and foremost, Coach Krywy has instilled a culture of hard work and commitment within the program. Secondly, the team has benefited from having a number of very talented players on its roster. In particular, senior guard Bryce Wilkins has been a key contributor during his time at Cary Academy. A four-year starter, Wilkins is widely regarded as one of the Top Players in North Carolina He has helped lead Cary Academy to two straight state tournament appearances and is currently averaging 19 points per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range
