Why Tracy McGrady Never Won an NBA Championship
Tracy McGrady is often considered one of the best basketball players of his generation. He was a seven-time All-Star, a two-time scoring champion, and one of the most explosive players to ever grace an NBA court But for all of his individual accolades, Tracy McGrady never won an NBA Championship In fact, he never even made it to the Finals.
There are a number of factors that contributed to Tracy McGrady’s lack of team success. For one, he spent the prime years of his career on some very bad teams. His first seven seasons were spent with the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets two franchises that were mired in mediocrity for most of the early 2000s. Even when McGrady was traded to the contending San Antonio Spurs in 2010, he was unable to make much of an impact and the team ultimately lost in the first round of the playoffs.
In addition to playing for some bad teams, Tracy McGrady was also hampered by injuries throughout his career. He missed significant time in eight different seasons due to various injuries, including back problems that eventually forced him into retirement. This not only prevented him from being available to help his teams win, but it also robbed him of some of his individual skills and athleticism as he got older.
So while Tracy McGrady had a great individual career, he was never able to win an NBA championship Injuries and playing for bad teams conspired against him and he will forever be remembered as one of the best players to never win a ring.
