The NBA PYT list is back and this time we’re looking at the top 10 young players in the NBA! These are the players who are poised to take over the league in the years to come and who have already made a huge impact on the league.
Zion Williamson
Zion Williamson PG, New Orleans Pelicans
Zion Williamson is a physical freak and has been tearing up the NBA since he was drafted 1st overall in 2019. At 6’6″ and 285 pounds, Williamson uses his brute strength and elite athleticism to bulldoze his way to the basket and finish with thunderous dunks. He is also an excellent rebounder for his position, averaging 9.3 rebounds per game so far this season. With averages of 23.6 points and 6.0 assists per game Williamson is one of the most well-rounded young players in the league and has helped lead the Pelicans to a surprising playoff berth in 2020.
Ja Morant
Ja Morant, the dynamic point guard from Murray State was taken with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies He immediately made an impact on the court and was unanimously named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Morant averaged 17.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game in his rookie season, leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs.
Trae Young
Trae Young point guard for the Atlanta Hawks is one of the most exciting young talents in the NBA today Standing at 6’1”, he’s not the biggest player on the court, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in skill and creativity. He was drafted 5th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft after a stellar college career at Oklahoma, where he averaged 27.4 points and 8.7 assists per game
In his first season with the Hawks, Young quickly proved that he belonged in the NBA, averaging 19.1 points and 8.1 assists per game and being named to the All-Rookie First Team. He followed that up with an even better second season, averaging 29.6 points and 9.3 assists per game and finishing second in MVP voting behind only Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks
There’s no doubt that Trae Young is one of the best young players in the NBA today and with still more room to grow, he has a very bright future ahead of him.
Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic is a Slovenian professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for Real Madrid of the Spanish League prior to being drafted 3rd overall in the 2018 NBA Draft
Doncic was named the EuroLeague Most Valuable Player and the Final Four MVP in 2018, becoming the youngest player ever to earn either honor. In 2019, he was named an NBA All-Star and helped lead the Mavericks to their first playoff berth since 2016. He is one of only four players in NBA history to average over 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in their rookie season, along with Oscar Robertson Michael Jordan and Lebron James
Deandre Ayton
Deandre Ayton is a 7-foot, 243-pound center who played one season at the University of Arizona He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In his rookie season, he averaged 16.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
Marvin Bagley
Marvin Bagley III (born March 14, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the Duke Blue Devils before being drafted with the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings
Jaren Jackson Jr.
At just 20 years old, Jaren Jackson Jr. is already one of the best young players in the NBA. The 6’11” forward was the 4th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and he’s been a key player for the Memphis Grizzlies ever since.
Jackson Jr. is an excellent shooter, both from inside and outside the arc, and he’s a great rim protector, averaging 2.5 blocks per game in his rookie season. He’s also a very smart player, with a High Basketball IQ that allows him to make plays on both ends of the court.
There’s no doubt that Jackson Jr. has a bright future in the NBA, and he’s already one of the best young players in the league.
Wendell Carter Jr.
Wendell Carter Jr. is a center for the Chicago Bulls He was drafted with the 7th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft He is a 6’10”, 251-pound young player with a 7’4″ wingspan.
Collin Sexton
Collin Sexton is an American Professional Basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for one season with the Alabama Crimson Tide before being drafted 8th overall by the Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Draft Sexton was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2019.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (born July 12, 1998) is a Canadian professional basketball player for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played one season of College Basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats before being selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the eleventh overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft He was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on draft night.
