Get to Know the Players – an introduction to the team
The Penn State Lady Lions basketball team is composed of 12 student-athletes who hail from all over the United States These12 young women are not only talented athletes, but they are also strong students, leaders on and off the court, and great ambassadors for Penn State University
Get to know the 2017-18 Lady Lions:
Alex Harris is a 5’9” guard from York, Pennsylvania. Harris is a psychology major and is in her fourth year of playing for the Lady Lions.During her freshman year, she played in all 30 games and averaged 2.4 points per game As a sophomore, Harris started in 19 games and averaged 7.1 points per game Last season, she started in all 33 games and averaged 8.9 points per game Harris is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after averaging 11.5 points per game during the tournament.
Jaida Travascio-Green is a 5’9” guard from Wilmington, Delaware. Travascio-Green is a communication sciences and disorders major and is in her second year playing for the Lady Lions. As a freshman, she played in all 33 games and averaged 5 Points per game Last season, she started in 27 games and averaged 7 points per game Travascio-Green was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after her outstanding rookie season.
Teniya Page is a 5’10” guard from Chicago, Illinois. Page is an economics major and is in her third year playing for the Lady Lions. As a freshman, she played in 31 games and averaged 11 points per game en route to being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and the media. Last season, Page started in all 32 games and averaged 16 points per game on her way to being named First Team All-Big Ten for the second consecutive season.
Amari Carteris a 5’8” guard from Hampton, Virginia. The Penn State Lady Lions Basketball team is made up of some of the best players in the country. Here are some of the team’s star players:
Guard/forward Kamaria McDaniel is one of the team’s top scorers She is a junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Center/forward De’Janae Boykin is one of the team’s best Defensive Players She is a senior from Clinton, Maryland.
Forward Siyeh Frazier is one of the team’s best rebounders. She is a junior from Detroit, Michigan.
The bench players – the players who provide depth to the team
Most college basketball teams have what are called “bench players.” These are the players who don’t start the game, but come in to provide depth to the team. The Penn State Lady Lions have a strong bench, with several players who could start for most teams. Here’s a look at some of the key bench players for the Lady Lions.
-Junior guard/forward Jasmine Foster is one of the top three-point shooters in the country. She comes off the bench to provide a scoring punch.
-Freshman forward Jaylen Williams is a 6’3″ post player who provides defense and rebounding.
-Sophomore guard/forward Amari Carter is one of the quickest players on the team. She provides a spark with her defense and her ability to push the ball up the court.
These are just three of the key bench players for the Lady Lions. They provide depth and experience that will be important as the team makes a run at the NCAA tournament
The Coaches – the team’s leaders
The Lady Lions are coached by Head Coach Coquese Washington and assistant coaches Fredency Gibson and Tamra Ransburg. They have a combined total of over 35 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. Coach Washington is in her ninth season as head lady lions’ basketball coach She has led the team to eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, six Sweet Sixteen appearances, four Elite Eight appearances, and two Final Four appearances. As a head coach she has a record of 261-125 (.675).

The Schedule – a look at the team’s upcoming games
The Penn State Lady Lions are set to take on some tough competition in the coming weeks. Here’s a look at their upcoming schedule:
Nov. 28 – vs. George Mason
The Lady Lions will open their season at home against George Mason on Nov. 28. This will be a good test for Penn State as George Mason went 21-10 last season and made it to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
Dec. 3 – vs. St. Francis (Pa.)
Penn State will stay at home for their next game, as they take on St. Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 3. St. Francis is coming off a tough season, as they went just 8-21 last year. However, they did make it to the Northeast conference tournament semifinals, so they’ll be looking to build on that in this matchup with the Lady Lions.
Dec 7 – vs. Virginia Tech
After taking on St. Francis, Penn State will hit the road for a matchup with Virginia Tech on Dec 7. This will be another tough game for the Lady Lions, as Virginia Tech went 22-9 last season and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to eventual National Champion Baylor.

The Penn State Lady Lions basketball team has a number of rivals, both in the conference and out. The biggest rivals are the Ohio State Buckeyes the Michigan Wolverines and the Pittsburgh Panthers
The Lady Lions have been dominant in the conference in recent years winning the regular season title three times in a row from 2016 to 2018. They also won the conference tournament in 2016 and 2017.
Ohio State is the biggest rival, given the shared border between Pennsylvania and Ohio. The two teams have met 183 times, with Ohio State holding a 108-75 advantage. The Lady Lions have had some success against Ohio State in recent years winning four of the last six meetings between the two teams.
Michigan is another big rival, given the long-standing rivalry between Pennsylvania and Michigan dating back to when they were both part of the Northwest Territory. The two teams have met 103 times, with Michigan holding a 63-40 advantage. The Lady Lions have had some success against Michigan in recent years as well, winning five of the last seven meetings between the two teams.

There are the students, of course, who make up the Lady Lions’ “sixth man ” They are always there cheering on their team, whether it’s in person or through social media They are passionate about their team and show it in everything they do.
Then there are the alumni and long-time fans who have been following the team for years. They bleed blue and white and have passed their love of the Lady Lions down to their children and grandchildren. They are some of the most passionate fans around and can always be counted on to support their team, no matter what.
Last but not least are the casual fans who may not have been following the team for years but have become interested in them recently. They might have started following them because they like watching women’s basketball or because they have a connection to Penn State Whatever the reason, they are now fully invested in the Lady Lions and always excited to see them play.
The History – a look at the team’s past
The Lady Lions are one of the most storied programs in women’s college basketball They have won more than 1,500 games and have been to 27 NCAA Tournaments, including 12 Sweet Sixteens and four Elite Eights. The Lady Lions have also won 17 Big Ten regular season championships and 13 Big Ten Tournament titles.
The team was founded in 1975 and played its first game in 1976. The Lady Lions had immediate success, winning their first 11 games. They would go on to finish the season 24-5, earning a spot in the AIAW Regionals. The following year, the team made it to the Elite Eight of the AIAW Tournament.
In 1981, the Lady Lions made the switch to the NCAA tournament and haven’t looked back since. They have been a fixture in the tournament ever since, making 27 appearances overall. The team has also had some great individual success, with six players being named First Team All-Americans and 11 players being named Academic All-Americans.
The Lady Lions are always striving for more success and are looking to add to their already impressive resume.
The Traditions – the team’s unique traditions
The Lady Lions basketball team has some unique traditions that make them stand out from other teams. One tradition is the team’s pre-game tunnel entrance, which has become one of the most popular and recognizable features of the team. The Lady Lions are led by Head Coach Coquese Washington, who is in her sixth season at Penn State Washington has compiled a 127-71 record at Penn State including a 63-37 mark in Big Ten play. Under her guidance, the Lady Lions have made five NCAA Tournament appearances and won four Big Ten conference championships
The Lady Lions are currently ranked ninth in the nation and are poised to make another run at the NCAA tournament The team is led by senior guard Alex Bentley, who is averaging 17.1 points per game and was recently named a First Team All-Big Ten selection. Bentley is joined in the backcourt by fellow senior Dara Taylor, who is averaging 11.9 points per game and was named a Second Team All-Big Ten selection. In the frontcourt, junior Nikki Greene is averaging 10.3 points per game and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game Greene was also named a First Team All-Big Ten selection. The Lady Lions also have three players averaging over nine points per game: sophomore Ariel Edwards (9.6), freshman Candice Agee (9.4), and junior Maggie Lucas (9).
The Lady Lions have a talented group of players that should help them compete for berths in the NCAA Tournament for years to come.
