Guard play will be key for the Golden Hurricane this season

With the graduation of three-year starter Corey Henderson Jr., the Golden Hurricane will be leaning heavily on their returning backcourt to provide leadership and scoring.Senior Shaquille Harrison (17.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.6 apg) will once again be called upon to be the team’s primary ball-handler and perimeter defender.He’ll be joined in the backcourt by fellow senior James Woodard (15.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.3 apg), who will be looked to as the go-to scorer.

The Golden Hurricane will also have some experience in the frontcourt, with junior Rashad Smith (9.8 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and senior Pat Birt (8.1 ppg, 4.4 rpg) returning to man the post.

Experienced big men will look to lead Tulsa in the paint

The Tulsa men’s Basketball team will have a bit of an experienced look to it in the post this season, as the Golden Hurricane return their top three big men from a year ago.

Headlining the group is junior Martins Igbanu, who was Tulsa’s leading scorer and rebounder last season (12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game). Igbanu is a 6-foot-8, 260-pound center who has the ability to score both inside and out. He shot 49 percent from the field and 31 percent from 3-point range last season, and he also led Tulsa in blocks (46).

Joining Igbanu in the frontcourt is 6-foot-9 senior Jeriah Horne, who averaged 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last season. Horne is a versatile player who can play both Power Forward and center, and he’s also a good shooter from 3-point range (37 percent last season).

Rounding out the group is junior Mychal Mulder, who averaged 8.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game last season while coming off the bench for most of the year. Mulder is a 6-foot-4 wing player who is an excellent shooter from 3-point range (43 percent last season).

He will be a key piece in Tulsa’s frontcourt rotation and will provide leadership for a young Golden Hurricane team.

Sophomore guard Ruby Portis is one of Tulsa’s most promising young players The 6’1” guard from Little Rock, Arkansas showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman, averaging 8 points per game while shooting 38% from three-point range. She will look to build on her success this season and become a more consistent player for the Golden Hurricane.

Redshirt junior forward Martins Igbanu came to Tulsa last season as a transfer from Oral Roberts University The 6’8” forward from Nigeria had to sit out last season due to NCAA transfer rules but should be eligible to play this season. He provides experience and leadership for a young Golden Hurricane team and will be looked upon to provide production in the frontcourt rotation.
