Williams Baptist University basketball – The Team
Williams Baptist University in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas is a small, private liberal arts school with an enrollment of around 700 students. The school is best known for its Basketball team which has been on the rise in recent years
The team finished its 18-19 season with a record of 19-11, its best finish since the program began in 2006. The team made it to the semifinals of the Arkansas Independent Colleges conference tournament and was ranked as high as No. 24 in the nation during the season.
Head coach Jeff Conner is entering his fourth season at Williams Baptist, and he has led the team to a conference championship and two NCAA Division II tournament appearances. The team is looking to build on its success from last season and make a run at the conference title and another NCAA tournament berth in 2019-20.

Williams Baptist University’s men’s basketball team has a long-standing rivalry with the University of Arkansas The two schools are separated by only about 60 miles, and the rivalry goes back to when the two schools first met on the court in 1927. The Williams Baptist Eagles have a record of 21-27 against the Razorbacks, but the Eagles have won four of the last five meetings.
The most recent meeting between the two schools was on December 6, 2019, when the Razorbacks defeated the Eagles 92-64. However, the Eagles have won four of the last five meetings against their rivals. In those five games, the average margin of victory for Williams Baptist has been just over 8 points per game

The head coach of the WBU Basketball team is Jason Hooten. Hooten is a former professional basketball player and has been coaching at the collegiate level for over 10 years. He has a proven track record of success, taking his previous team to the NCAA Division II tournament four times in five years.
Under Hooten’s leadership, the WBU Basketball Team has seen a dramatic turnaround. In his first year as Head Coach the team went from a record of 14-16 to 20-10. The following year, they improved even more, finishing with a record of 25-7. This past season, they had an even better year, finishing with a record of 30-6.
The WBU Basketball team is on the rise and looks poised to make an even deeper run in the postseason under the guidance of Jason Hooten.
