Zach Edey’s early life and hockey career

Zach Edey was born in Montreal, Quebec, on June 10th, 2002. Zach’s father is Tim Edey, a former professional hockey player who played for the Montreal Canadiens New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings organizations. Zach’s mother is Andrea Keayes, a former professional figure skater. Zach has two older sisters, Emily and Olivia.

Zach started skating at the age of three and began playing organized hockey at five years old. He played minor hockey in Montreal until he was eleven years old before moving to Toronto to play AAA minor hockey for the Don Mills Flyers. In his first season with the Flyers, Zach scored an impressive thirty-seven goals and eighty-three points in sixty-six games.

Following his successful first season with the Flyers, Zach was selected in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2015 OHL Draft by the Niagara IceDogs. He made his debut for the IceDogs during the 2015-16 season and scored fifteen goals and thirty-five points in sixty-eight games as a sixteen-year-old rookie.

The following season, Zach had a breakout year offensively, scoring twenty-eight goals and seventy points in fifty-nine games for the IceDogs. After his successful sophomore season in the OHL, Zach was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft He returned to Niagara for one more season before making his professional debut with Edmonton’s AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, during the 2019-20 season
