The CBA Season History
The Continental Basketball Association (CBA) was a professional men’s basketball minor league in the United States The CBA began play in the 1978–79 season. It ceased operations on June 30, 2009, 11 days before its scheduled start of the 2009–10 season.
The league was headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts. At the time it folded, there were eight teams all based in cities located east of the Mississippi River. Of those eight teams, only four – Dakota Wizards, Erie BayHawks, Iowa Energy and Sioux Falls Skyforce – survived to 2009 following protracted financial problems with several franchises dating back to 2004.
The last champions were the Dakota Wizards who defeated the Erie BayHawks at home on March 28, 2008 to win their first-ever CBA Championship by a score of 140–129. They went on to defeat the Fuerza Regia of Monterrey, Mexico in Cancun by a score of 125–118 to capture their second straight CBA International Challenge Cup on April 6 before being crowned Overall Champions of both leagues.
