AL Manager

The rosters for the 2012 All-Star Game have been announced, and there are some surprises—both good and bad.

In the American League Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter will lead the team. This is Showalter’s third time managing the AL squad, but he has never won the game. Can he turn things around this year?

Showalter will have some strong players to work with, including AL MVP Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers and sluggers Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays and Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees The AL team also features two rookies: Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Yu Darvish of the Texas Rangers

The National League team will be managed by Tony La Russa, who led the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series victory last year. La Russa is no stranger to All-Star Games, having managed six previous squads. He has a winning record in those games, so he will be looking to add another win to his resume.

La Russa’s team includes some of the best players in baseball, such as NL MVP Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants and Milwaukee Brewers superstar Ryan Braun. The NL team also has a pair of rookies: Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals and Wade Miley of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
