However, the Olympic Committee intervened, as they believed that only teams that had qualified for the Olympic Games could use the word “Olympian” in their team name. As a result, the team was renamed the “Beijing Aoshen Royal Fighters”.

The team’s fortunes began to improve in their third season, when they finished with a 17-15 record and made the playoffs for the first time. They would go on to lose in the first round of the playoffs that year, but the following season they would make it all the way to the CBA Finals, where they lost to the Guangdong Southern Tigers
