Bethune Cookman Baseball Roster: The Players to Watch

Catchers

The Bethune Cookman baseball team has a strong roster this year, with a Number of players who could make an impact at the collegiate level. Here’s a look at some of the team’s catchers:

--Derek Jeter A senior from Pompano Beach, Florida, Jeter is a three-year starter who has been a key player for the Wildcats. He was named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first team last year after hitting .321 with six home runs and 32 RBIs.

-Tyler Wilkinson: A junior from Daytona Beach Wilkinson is another experienced player who has started for Bethune Cookman in the past. He hit .293 last season with four home runs and 27 RBIs.

Infielders

The infield is the part of the baseball field closest to the batter. It includes first base, second base, third base and shortstop. The P layer who bats first is the leadoff hitter. The second player in the batting order is called the number two hitter. The third player is called the third hitter, and so on until the ninth hitter, who bats last.

The most important Defensive Player on the infield is the shortstop. The shortstop has to be able to field ground balls hit between first and second base, and also between second and third base. He also has to be able to turn double plays. A double play is when two runners are out on one play. It usually happens when a ground ball is hit to the shortstop, who then throws to second base to get one runner out, and then second base throws to first base to get the other runner out.

The other three field positions are first baseman, second baseman and third baseman. These players have to be able to catch fly balls hit their way, and they also have to be able field ground balls hit their way. They also have to be able throw runners out who are trying to steal bases.

Outfielders

The Bethune Cookman Baseball Team has some serious firepower in the outfield this season. All three starting outfielders are juniors, and they have the potential to put up some big numbers.

Leading the way is center fielder D.J. Stewart, who was named a preseason All-American by Baseball America Stewart is a gifted hitter with power to all fields, and he is also a superb defender. He will be flanked by two other talented players in Left fielder Anthony Maldonado and right fielder Dasan Brown.

Maldonado is a left-handed hitter with a sweet swing and good power. He is also an excellent runner, which makes him a threat to steal bases. Brown is an athletic player with a strong arm who can also hit for average and power.

Robinson Thirion: Thirion is a senior from Montreal, Quebec. He was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Pitcher of the Year in 2018 after posting an 8-2 record with a 3.24 ERA in 16 starts. He was also named First Team All-MEAC and was selected to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Anderson dos Santos: Dos Santos is a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was named First Team All-MEAC in 2018 after going 6-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 16 starts. Dos Santos was also selected to participate in the Senior Bowl.

Miguel Rodriguez: Rodriguez is a junior from Bayamon, Puerto Rico He was named Second Team All-MEAC in 2018 after going 5-5 with a 4.50 ERA in 16 starts.

Relief Pitchers

In relief pitching, it is important to have a strong and reliable pitcher who can come in and get outs when the starting pitcher is struggling or the game is close. The relief pitchers on the Bethune-Cookman baseball team are some of the best in the nation and will be key to the team’s success this season. Here are some of the relief pitchers to watch out for:

1. Senior pitcher Michael Gorecki is one of the most experienced relief pitchers on the team and has been a key contributor to the team’s success over the past three years. He has a fastball that hits996-98 MPH and a slider that is absolutely filthy.

2. Sophomore pitcher Jacob Holliday is another one of Bethune-Cookman’s top relief pitchers. He has a fastball that sits in the mid-90s and a changeup that is one of the best in college baseball He also has great control of his pitches and knows how to pitch to hitters.

3. Freshman pitcher Kyle Maki is one of the most promising young pitchers on the team. He has a fastball that reaches 97 MPH and a great curveball that he uses to get hitters out. He also has great control of his pitches and should be a key contributor to the team’s success this season.

Catcher’s Prospects

-Jordon Austin: Austin is a senior third baseman who was named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first team last season. He is a two-time MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and led the conference in Fielding percentage (.990) and putouts (149) last season. He also hit .333 with four home runs 32 RBIs and 19 stolen bases Austin is definitely a player to watch this season as he looks to lead Bethune-Cookman back to the NCAA tournament

-Dylan Dillard: Dillard is a junior shortstop who was named second team All-MEAC last season. He hit .270 with one home run 16 RBIs and 10 stolen bases last season. Dillard has good speed and is solid defensively at shortstop. He should be one of the top hitters in the lineup this season and should provide some good run production for Bethune-Cookman.

-Nicky Delmonico: Delmonico is a junior first baseman who was named third team All-MEAC last season. He hit .276 with five Home Runs 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases last year. Delmonico has good power for a first baseman and should be one of the top run producers in the lineup this season.

Outfielder’s Prospects

Senior outfielder Trayvon Bromell is another player to keep an eye on. Bromell was an all-conference performer last season and is one of the team’s leaders. He’ll be counted on to provide power and stability in the outfield this season.

Junior outfielder Dondrei Hubbard is another player with a lot of potential. Hubbard is a talented hitter with good speed and athleticism. He’ll be competing for a starting spot in the outfield this season.

Starting Pitcher’s Prospects

1. RHP Jackson Norman: Norman is a redshirt junior who was named the MEAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. He is a hard-throwing right-hander with a fastball that sits in the low 90s and reaches up to 95 mph. Norman also has a sharp slider and a decent changeup. He had a 3.86 ERA in 13 starts last season and will be looked to as the ace of the staff this year.

2. LHP Connor Cameron: Cameron is a sophomore who was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball News last season. He is a left-hander with Good Stuff including a fastball that touches 90 mph and a plus curveball. Cameron pitched to a 2.70 ERA in 13 starts as a freshman and will be counted on to provide quality innings again this year.

3. RHP Dylan Thompson: Thompson is a junior college transfer who was ranked as the No. 1 JUCO pitching prospect in the country by perfect game USA coming out of San Jacinto College North. He is a big right-hander with an electric arm, touching 98 mph with his fastball.Thompson also has a plus slider and an improving changeup. He will be looking to make an immediate impact in his first season with the Wildcats

Relief Pitcher’s Prospects

As the regular season draws to a close, Bethune-Cookman’s baseball team finds itself in one of the most difficult situations imaginable. They are just barely hanging on to the last spot in the playoffs, and they have to face off against some of the best teams in the league. It is going to take everything they’ve got to make it through this gauntlet, but they have a secret weapon: relief pitcher John Doe

Doe has been nothing short of dominant this season, posting a 0.96 ERA in 45 innings pitched He has struck out 73 batters while only walking 19, and he has been virtually unhittable when called upon in high-leverage situations. If Bethune-Cookman is going to make a run at the championship, it is going to be on the back of John Doe’s arm.
