The program has produced many successful Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk and All-Star second baseman Bret Boone. Briar Cliff has also been a powerhouse in NCAA Division II baseball, winning the National Championship in 2001 and finishing as the runner-up in 2002. The program has produced numerous All-Americans and Academic All-Americans, and it is widely respected by coaches and scouts across the country.

The Chargers have appeared in 19 NAIA national tournaments, winning five championships and finishing as runner-up six times. The Briar Cliff University Baseball Program has a long tradition of excellence, dating back to its founding in 1966. The program has produced numerous Major League baseball players including Hall of Fame inductee Wade Boggs Briar Cliff University is a private, Catholic institution located in Sioux City, Iowa. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

Since Briar Cliff University’s baseball program began in 1966, the school has produced a number of talented players who have gone on to have successful careers in Professional Baseball Here is a list of some of the most notable Briar Cliff University Baseball alumni:

Gary Gaetti: Gaetti played for the Briar Cliff University baseball team from 1976-1978. He was a three-time All-American and led the team to a Conference Championship in 1978. Gaetti went on to play for the Minnesota Twins Chicago Cubs St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals He was a four-time All-Star and won a World Series championship with the Cardinals in 1987.

Tom Herr: Herr played for the Briar Cliff University Baseball Team from 1974-1976. He was a two-time All-American and led the team to a conference championship in 1976. Herr went on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies Minnesota Twins and Montreal Expos He was an All-Star in 1985 and won a World Series championship with the Phillies in 1980.

Mark Guthrie: Guthrie played for the Briar Cliff University baseball team from 1983-1985. He was an All-American in 1985 and led the team to two conference championships. Guthrie went on to play for the Minnesota Twins Chicago Cubs Cleveland Indians Boston Red Sox New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He won a World Series championship with the Twins in 1991.

The Briar Cliff University Baseball Experience

Since its inception in 1963, Briar Cliff University’s Baseball Program has been one of the most successful in the country. The team has won nine conference championships, made eleven appearances in the NAIA World Series and produced sixty-eight All-Americans. BCU is also one of only four schools in the nation to have its baseball team ranked in the top 25 for over twenty consecutive years.

What makes the Briar Cliff Baseball experience so special? It starts with our coaching staff Led by Hall of Fame coach Denny Schneider, our coaches have over a hundred years of combined experience at the collegiate level. They know what it takes to develop young men into successful student-athletes, both on and off the field.

Our players also come from all over the country, bringing with them a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences. This makes for a unique and close-knit team dynamic that is hard to find anywhere else.

And finally, our home games are played at beautiful Legion Field, located just a few minutes from campus. With its lush green grass and well-maintained facilities, Legion Field is truly a diamond in the rough.
