The Road to the Top
Cal Baptist University’s baseball team is on the rise. After years of toiling in obscurity, the Lancers are finally starting to get the recognition they deserve.
Led by Head Coach Garyad Davis, the Lancers have won two straight conference championships and are currently ranked No. 24 in the nation. The team is also coming off a victory over defending National Champion Oregon State
With a young, talented roster, the sky is the limit for this team. So far, they have shown that they can compete with anyone in the country.
The Lancers have a bright future ahead of them. With continued hard work and dedication, they could soon be one of the top teams in the nation.
The Journey Begins
In the spring of 2014, the Cal Baptist Baseball Team embarked on its first season in Division I. The team had only been playing at the Division II level for a few years, but had already made a name for itself by winning back-to-back Division II National Championships in 2012 and 2013.
The transition to Division I was not an easy one, and the team struggled to find its footing in the new league. They finished with a record of just 15-41 in their first season, but they refused to give up.
Since then, the team has slowly but surely been getting better each year. In 2017, they won their first ever Division I conference tournament game and finished with a record of 26-31. And this past season, they made history by winning their first ever Division I regular season conference championship
The journey has not been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved. The team has gone from being an unknown quantity to being one of the top teams in their conference, and they are only going to continue to get better in the years to come.
The Team Comes Together
The 2019 season was one to remember for the Cal Baptist baseball team
After starting the season off strong, the team went through a rough patch in conference play But they came together and turned things around, winning their last Ten Conference games to finish second in the regular season
The team then went on to win the conference tournament giving them their first ever berth in the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
Although they didn’t make it out of the regional tournament the 2019 season was a big step forward for the program, and one that has set them up for continued success in the years to come.
The First Step
In college baseball there are a few teams that are considered “on the rise.” These are programs that have shown improvement in recent years and seem to be heading in the right direction. One team that fits this description is Cal Baptist.
The Lancers have made strides in recent years most notably winning the West Coast Conference Regular Season title in 2019. They followed that up with a trip to the NCAA tournament where they won a game before being eliminated.
Cal Baptist is a team on the rise, and they took another step forward this week when they hired former big leaguer Mike Maroth as their new head coach
Maroth is a proven winner at the collegiate level, having led Central Michigan to six NCAA Tournament appearances in his nine seasons as Head Coach He also has experience coaching in the professional ranks, having served as pitching coach for the Triple-A Louisville Bats from 2013-2017.
With Maroth at the helm, Cal Baptist looks poised to take another step forward in their quest to become one of the Top Teams in the country.
The Second Step
After making the playoffs in 2017, the Cal Baptist baseball team is looking to take the next step and make a deep run in 2018. The team is stacked with talent, led by senior pitcher Ryan Cooper and junior slugger Jordan Hunt. With a strong mix of veterans and young players the Lancers are poised for a special season.
The Third Step
In order to take the next step and become a nationally ranked team, the Cal Baptist Baseball Team must continue to develop its players and turn them into well-rounded athletes. The Coaching Staff does an excellent job of teaching the technical aspects of the game, but there is always Room for Improvement
The team has made great strides in recent years and is now one of the top teams in the country. However, they are still missing that something special that will take them to the next level. In order to take that next step, they need to continue to develop their players and turn them into well-rounded athletes.
The coaching staff does an excellent job of teaching the technical aspects of the game, but there is always room for improvement. They need to continue to work on developing their hitters approach at the plate and their pitchers command on the mound. If they can do that, there is no reason why this team can’t compete for a national title in the near future.
8 )The Final Step
After four years of toil and sweat, the members of the California Baptist University baseball team were finally able to call themselves champions. They had did it. They had won the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II World Series It was the first time in school history that a team from Cal Baptist had won a National Championship in any sport.
The Future
The future of Cal Baptist baseball looks bright. With a strong recruiting class coming in and a core group of players returning, the team is poised to make a run at the conference title Head coach Gary Adcock has said that the goal for the program is to make it to the NCAA tournament and with the talent that he has on his roster, it is certainly achievable.
The team will be led by senior pitcher Jared Lyons, who was named the conference Pitcher of the Year last season. Lyons will be flanked by a solid group of starters, including junior ace Jake McLintock and sophomore stalwart Kyle Hachey. The bullpen will be anchored by junior closer Nickolas Perkins, who saved 11 games last season.
Offensively, the team will be powered by junior slugger Brandon Neely, who hit 19 home runs last season. He will be joined in the middle of the lineup by senior catcher Ryan Cooper and junior first baseman Jordan Qsar. The team will also have speed at the top of the lineup with sophomore outfielders Nate Johnson and Bryce Johnson
With all of this talent returning, plus a strong Recruiting Class coming in, Cal Baptist baseball is poised for a big year. Be sure to catch them in action this spring!
