The NHL season is in Full Swing and we thought it would be a fun exercise to put together a list of the top 10 Canadian NHL players This was no easy task, as there are so many great Canadian players to choose from. But we think we’ve put together a solid list.
Sidney Crosby
Sidney Crosby is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played Junior hockey for the Rimouski Océanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), with whom he won the Rimouski’s organization’s Player of the Year awards for best offensive player and best overall player.
Connor McDavid
Connor McDavid is a Canadian professional Ice Hockey centre and captain of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has been called “the most dominant player in today’s game” by many analysts and fellow players. In 2017, he became the NHL’s youngest team captain in history. McDavid was selected first overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Oilers, making him the sixth player in NHL history to be chosen first overall multiple times.
Carey Price
Carey Price is a Canadian professional Ice hockey goaltender who plays for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted seventh overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens. In 2015, he helped lead the team to a berth in the Stanley Cup Final and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP.

Jonathan Toews
Jonathan Toews is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who serves as captain of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Toews was selected by the Blackhawks with the third overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft He began his career with the Blackhawks in 2007–08 and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team He scored his first career hat-trick in 2008. The following season, he won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks, scoring the winning goal in Game 6 of the Final against the Philadelphia Flyers. He then helped Canada win gold at both the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics
Brent Burns
Brent Burns is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and right winger for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for the Minnesota Wild Originally a forward, he converted to defenceman due to an injury to a fellow player while with the Wild.
Burns was drafted 20th overall in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild He began playing in the NHL with them from 2003 to 2011. In his eight years with the team, he scored 20 goals and added 77 assists in 506 games played On June 24, 2011, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks for Charlie Coyle, Devin Setoguchi and a first-Round Draft pick.
Since joining the Sharks, he has been named as an NHL All-Star three times and has been nominated for numerous awards, including winning the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 2017 as the league’s top defenceman. Internationally, Burns has represented Canada on several occasions. He was a member of the Canadian team that won bronze at the 2010 Winter Olympics and silver at the 2014 Winter Olympics
Patrick Kane
Patrick Kane is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who serves as captain of the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks and is one of the most decorated players in NHL history Kane is also a two-time Olympic silver medalist and was named to the NHL’s First All-Star team in 2015.
Mark Scheifele
Mark Scheifele is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who currently serves as captain of the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted seventh overall by the Jets in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and has represented Canada internationally on several occasions, winning gold at both the World Junior Championships and the World Championships
Alex Ovechkin
Ovechkin was born in Moscow, Russia, and began playing hockey at the age of 8. He was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut in 2005. He has since become one of the league’s most prolific goal-scorers, and is currently the captain of the Capitals. He has won numerous accolades, including the Calder Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year, three Hart Trophies as league MVP, and four Art Ross Trophies as the league’s leading scorer.
John Tavares
John Tavares is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre who is currently captain of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Tavares was selected first overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Islanders, and has led them in scoring for six consecutive seasons. He has also played internationally for Team Canada in several tournaments.
Auston Matthews
Auston Matthews is a Canadian professional Ice hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was born on September 17, 1997, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Matthews grew up playing hockey in the United States before moving to Toronto, Ontario, in order to play for the Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He was drafted first overall by the Maple Leafs in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft In his rookie season, he set the franchise record for most goals by a rookie in a season and was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
