Catawba basketball is on the rise: the story so far
For the first time in school history, Catawba College’s men’s Basketball team is nationally ranked. The Indians are currently ranked 23rd in the nation in the latest NABC Coaches’ Poll.
Just two years ago, Catawba was a Division II school in transition to NCAA Division I. The team finished with a record of 15-16 overall and 10-8 in South Atlantic Conference play, good for sixth place in the League Standings
This season, under the leadership of Head Coach Rob Permanent, Catawba has emerged as one of the top teams in Division II. The Indians are 21-3 overall and 15-1 in conference play good for first place in the SAC standings.
Catawba has been led by a balanced scoring attack and stingy defense this season. Six different players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by junior forward Jordan Carswell who is averaging 16.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game On the defensive end, Catawba is holding opponents to just 63.8 points per game good for sixth in Division II.
The Indians have won 12 games in a row and are currently riding a 19-game home Winning Streak dating back to last season. With just four games remaining on their regular season schedule, Catawba is poised to make a run at the Division II National Championship

Assistant coach Scott Fletcher has been with Webb since she took over the program in 2013. Assistant Coach Karen Barefoot, who joined the program in 2015, has also been instrumental in the team’s success. Her energy and passion for the game have helped to motivate and inspire the players.
Webb credits her Assistant coaches for much of the team’s success this season. “I couldn’t do it without them,” she says. “They’re an important part of our program and I’m grateful for all they do.” With a strong Coaching Staff leading the way, there’s no telling how far Catawba Basketball can go!
