Duggar Baucom is in his sixth season as head coach of The Citadel Bulldogs basketball team The Bulldogs compete in the Southern Conference of NCAA Division I. In his five years at The Citadel, Baucom has compiled a 115-93 record. His teams have reached the SoCon semifinals three times and the SoCon Championship game once.

In 2010, the Bulldogs also earned an NCAA berth, losing to eventual National Champion Duke in the first round.

Citadel basketball coach Duggar Baucom is no stranger to winning. In his 20 years as a Head Coach he has amassed an impressive 638-356 record, including a stretch of five consecutive 20-win seasons at VMI from 2002 to 2007. Baucom’s teams have also made 10 postseason appearances, including six NCAA Tournament berths.
Now, Baucom is looking to continue his winning ways at The Citadel, where he was named head coach in April of 2016. Baucom inherits a Bulldogs team that went 9-21 last season and has not had a winning record since the 2010-11 campaign.
In order to turn things around at The Citadel, Baucom knows that he will have to instill his vision for the program in his players.
“The biggest thing is getting our guys to buy into what we’re trying to do here,” Baucom told the Charleston Mercury News. “I want them to understand that we’re building something special and that they can be a part of something really special if they’re willing to work hard and buy into what we’re doing.”
One of the first things Baucom did after being hired was put together a highly competitive non-Conference Schedule for the upcoming season The Bulldogs will face off against Power 5 opponents Clemson, South Carolina and Georgia Tech as well as mid-major foes like Green Bay Wright State and Mercer.
Baucom is confident that his team will be up for the challenge.
“I think our guys are really excited about the opportunity to play some of these big-time programs,” Baucom said. “It’s going to be a great experience for them and I think it’s going to help us grow as a program.”
The Citadel will open its 2016-17 season on November 11 against Wofford at McAlister Field House.
