Colgate Hockey: A Tradition of Excellence
Founded in 1947, the Colgate Hockey program has a long and storied tradition of excellence. The Raiders have won five national championships and have produced a number of NHL players includingCurrent Head Coach Don Vaughan is the winningest coach in program history, and under his leadership the team has won four ECAC regular season titles and two ECAC tournament championships. The Colgate Hockey Program is a perennial powerhouse, and its tradition of excellence shows no signs of slowing down.
The History of Colgate Hockey
Colgate hockey is a tradition of excellence dating back over a century. The program has produced some of the greatest players in the history of the sport, including Hobey Baker, Ed Riordon, and Eamon McEachern. Today, Colgate is one of the top hockey programs in the country, consistently competing for conference and national championships.
The history of Colgate hockey began in 1896, when a group of students formed a team to compete against other colleges in the area. The team was very successful, winning several championships in its early years. In 1926, Colgate joined the Eastern Intercollegiate Hockey League which would later become today’s Ivy League The move to the league helped to raise the profile of the program, and Colgate soon became one of the most successful teams in college hockey
In the decades that followed, Colgate continued to be one of the top teams in college hockey In 1977, the team won its first and only NCAA championship defeating Michigan 6-1 in the final game Since then, Colgate has appeared in four more NCAA tournaments but has yet to win another title.
Despite not winning another NCAA championship, Colgate has remained one of the top programs in college hockey The team has won 11 conference championships since joining the ECAC in 1963 and has produced numerous NHL players over the years. Today, Colgate continues to compete at a high level and is one of the most respected programs in all of college hockey
The Colgate Hockey Program
The Colgate hockey program is one of the most successful in NCAA Division I history. The Raiders have won nine conference championships and made 22 appearances in the NCAA tournament including five trips to the Frozen Four. Colgate has produced many NHL Players including current stars Chris Kreider and Colton Parayko.
The Colgate Hockey Team
The Colgate Hockey Team is a tradition of excellence. The team has won five national championships and is a five-time NCAA Division I finalist. The team is also a nine-time Ecac Hockey regular season champion and a seven-time conference tournament champion. The team has produced many NHL players including former Colgate player Chris Drury ’98, who was the NHL Rookie of the Year in 1999 and went on to win the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.

The Colgate hockey rivalry is one of the oldest and most storied in college hockey The two teams have met over 230 times since their first game in 1921, and the rivalry remains strong to this day.
Colgate and Cornell are two of the most successful teams in college hockey history. Between them, they have won 11 NCAA Championships and 25 conference championships. Both teams are consistently ranked among the top teams in the country, and they often find themselves battling for first place in the Conference Standings

The Colgate Hockey Championships are a tradition of excellence, and have been won by some of the greatest teams in college hockey history.
The Future of Colgate Hockey
As Colgate prepares to take the ice for the 2019-2020 Season there is much excitement surrounding the program. head coach Don Vaughan enters his 25th season at the helm of the Raiders, and he has built a tradition of excellence that has made Colgate one of the top hockey programs in the nation.
The Raiders are coming off a 2018-2019 season that saw them win 19 games and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament where they eventually fell to eventual National Champion Minnesota State in the Midwest Regional Semifinal. Despite the disappointing end to the season, there is still plenty of reason for optimism heading into 2019-2020.
The Raiders return a core group of experienced players, led by senior captain Ethan Lawrence. Lawrence is coming off a junior season in which he led the team in scoring with 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points. He will be joined by fellow seniors Adam Dauda (9-17-26) and Mitch Benson (7-7-14), who will look to provide leadership and production on both ends of the ice.
In addition to the experienced veterans, Colgate will also have several talented newcomers joining the fold. Freshmen Liam McLinskey and Chase Porter are two highly touted forwards who should make an immediate impact, while defenseman Lucas Mandeville comes to Colgate from Junior hockey where he was named an All-Star in 2018-2019.
With a mix of experienced veterans and talented newcomers, Colgate looks poised for another successful season on the ice. The Raiders have their sights set on winning another conference championship and making a deep run in the NCAA tournament and with this talented group of players, they have every chance to reach their goals.
