Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, has a baseball Coaching Staff that is second to none. With years of experience and knowledge of the game, the coaches at Concordia know how to help their players succeed both on and off the field.
Head coach Chris Coste, a former Major League player, leads a staff that includes assistant coaches Mike Ruechel and Steve Bieser. Together, they have over 50 years of coaching experience at all levels of baseball.
Assistant Coach Mike Ruechel has coached at Concordia for 19 years. He has also coached at the High School and collegiate levels, as well as in the professional ranks.
Assistant coach Steve Bieser has been with the Concordia baseball program for 10 years. Prior to his time at Concordia, he coached at Division I University of Missouri

One of those coaches is Mark Sorensen, who is entering his 23rd season as Concordia’s head baseball coach Coach Sorensen has been a part of some of the most successful teams in school history, including the 1999 team that won the NAIA World Series He is also one of only two coaches in school history to win multiple conference championships and he has been named Conference Coach of the Year four times.
Another one of those coaches is Tim Mooney, who is entering his 18th season as Concordia’s assistant Baseball Coach Coach Mooney has been a part of some of the most successful teams in school history, including the 1999 team that won the NAIA World Series He is also one of only two coaches in school history to win multiple conference championships, and he has been named Conference Coach of the Year four times.

The Concordia Baseball Coaching Difference
Concordia Baseball is known for its highly successful teams, and a big part of that success comes from the quality of the coaching. Concordia coaches are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable in the country, and they’re committed to helping their players succeed both on and off the field.
Concordia’s head coach Frank Atkins, has over 30 years of experience coaching at the collegiate level. He’s led Concordia to 5 conference championships and 3 National Championships and he’s been named conference Coach of the Year 6 times. Coach Atkins is a firm believer in the importance of team play, and he instills that belief in his players.
Concordia assistant coach Derek Mendoza has been with the program for 10 years. Coach Mendoza is a former professional baseball player and he brings a wealth of knowledge about the game to his players. He’s also an outstanding recruiter, and he’s helped bring some of the country’s top talent to Concordia.
Concordia pitching coach Sean Murphy has over 20 years of experience coaching pitchers at all levels. He’s worked with some of the best pitchers in the country, and he knows what it takes to be successful on the mound. Coach Murphy is a master at teaching pitch location and movement, and he’s helped Concordia pitchers develop into some of the best in the nation.

Concordia Baseball: The Coaches Who Know How to Win
Concordia’s baseball coaches have a long history of success. They have led the team to 10 conference championships and have been named conference Coach of the Year 11 times. The current coaching staff includes Head Coach Tim Foli, who has been with the team for eight years, and Assistant coaches Steve Foster and Brad Wilkerson.
Foli played professional baseball for 12 years before becoming a coach. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1978 and played for them until 1982. He then played for the Chicago White Sox Detroit Tigers New York Mets Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates He retired from playing in 1992 and became a coach. He has been with Concordia since 2001.
Foster has been coaching baseball since he graduated from college in 1990. He coached at the high school level for 15 years before coming to Concordia in 2005. Foster also played college baseball and was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1984. He played four years of minor League Baseball before becoming a coach.
Wilkerson is in his first season as an assistant coach at Concordia. He played Professional Baseball for 10 years before retiring in 2016. Wilkerson was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2006 and played for them until 2009. He then played for the Washington Nationals Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs organizations.
