The Infield

The infield is composed of four positions: first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, and third baseman. First base is the corner of the infield closest to home plate The second baseman stands to the right of first base, the shortstop to the left of second base, and the third baseman to the left of shortstop.

Each position plays a distinct and important role in baseball. The first baseman’s primary responsibility is to catch throws from the pitcher and other infielders for outs. The second baseman must be quick and agile to field balls hit in front of him, turn double plays with the shortstop, and catch balls thrown from the outfielders. The shortstop is often considered the most important Defensive Player on the field because he has the responsibility of covering a large area and must be able to make quick throws to first base. The third baseman must have a strong arm to make throws to first base, as well as stop hard-hit balls hit in his direction.

While each position has its own unique set of responsibilities, all four positions work together as a team to complete outs and score runs

The Outfield

The outfield is one of the most important parts of the Game of Baseball The players in the outfield are responsible for catching fly balls and preventing runners from advancing around the bases. There are typically three outfielders on a baseball team and they typically play in positions called left field center field, and right field.

The Cortland baseball team is lucky to have a number of talented players in the outfield. One player to watch out for is Cody Sherman, who plays in left field. Sherman has been with the team for four years and is a two-time All-American. In right field is Kevin Miller, who is also a four-year player with the team. Miller is known for his strong arm, which allows him to make some impressive plays in the field. Center fielder Ryan Taylor rounds out the outfield trio. Taylor is a three-year starter and was named captain of the team this year.

With such a talented and experienced group of outfielders, the Cortland Baseball Team is sure to have a successful season!
