Dakota Wesleyan University has a long and storied history in baseball. The program has been one of the most successful in the country, winning numerous conference and National Championships DWU has produced many Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett

Puckett is one of the most iconic players in Minnesota Twins history. He was a 10-time All-Star, won six Gold Glove Awards and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. Puckett played his entire 12-year career with the Twins, helping the team to two World Series championships in 1987 and 1991.

Other notable DWU alumni include Houston Astros pitcher Joe Smith and Baltimore Orioles infielder Tim Beckham. Smith is a veteran relief pitcher who has played for eight different teams during his 14-year career. Beckham is a former first overall pick who made his Major League debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013.

Under Head Coach Rick Cruz, the program has continued its tradition of success, winning the Great Plains Athletic conference tournament in 2017 and 2018. The team also made an appearance in the NCAA Division II World Series in 2017.

Under the guidance of head coach Cory Clark, the team has won conference championships in five of the last six seasons, including three straight Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) titles from 2016-2018. In 2019, the Tigers made their sixth consecutive trip to the NAIA World Series where they finished as the national runner-up.

Dakota Wesleyan University has a long history of success in baseball, dating back to its days as a member of the South Dakota Collegiate Conference (SDCC). The Tigers won SDCC championships in 1927, 1928 and 1929, and they made their first trip to the NAIA World Series in 1930. In the years since, Dakota Wesleyan has appeared in the World Series 16 times, with its most recent appearance coming in 2019.

The facilities of the Dakota Wesleyan Baseball program

Dakota Wesleyan University’s (DWU) baseball program is one of the premier programs in NCAA Division II baseball. Located in Mitchell, South Dakota Dakota Wesleyan’s Laddie and Shirley Tuttle softball complex and Christensen Stadium have been the home of the DWU Baseball Program since their doors opened in 1992 and 2000 respectively.

The facilities of the Dakota Wesleyan Baseball program are second to none. The Laddie and Shirley Tuttle Softball Complex, which is also the home of the DWU softball team features two lighted fields, bullpens, a concession area, and a press box. The Christensen Stadium, named after long-time DWU Head Coach Mark Christensen, is a state-of-the-art facility that features lights, Astroturf®, a press box, and seating for 1,000 fans.

Both complexes have been the site of numerous conference, regional, and national tournaments. The most recent tournament hosted by Dakota Wesleyan was the 2019 NSIC Baseball Tournament

Dakota Wesleyan baseball fans rejoice! The team’s schedule has been released, and it is looking to be an exciting season.

The team will open their season on the road against Concordia University on February 15th. They will then have a Home game against Briar Cliff University on February 16th.
