Robinson’s early life and basketball career

David Robinson was born in Key West Florida, on August 6, 1965, the second of John and Freda Robinson’s three children. When Robinson was a youngster, his family moved to Virginia, where he was raised. Robinson played organized basketball for the first time as a sophomore at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, Virginia. That year he also began attending Admiral Farragut Academy, a private boarding school in St. Petersburg, Florida, known for its excellent preparatory program. After graduation from high school in 1983, Robinson attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. As a freshman at the academy, he was ineligible to play Varsity Basketball but did play on the Junior varsity squad.
