The school’s Basketball team competes in the North Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

The program has won 24 Cif San Diego Section championships, the most of any team in the section. They have also won ten CIF state championships which is second most in California history. In addition, the Nighthawks have won five National Championships which is tied for the fourth most of any high school team in the country.

Del Norte High School basketball – Conclusion
The Del Norte boys Basketball team ended its season on Saturday with a 57-40 victory over Eureka in the Redwood Coast Invitational Tournament at Eureka high school
The Warriors (3-3) got off to a hot start, opening up a 17-8 lead after the first quarter. But the Loggers (2-5) battled back and cut the margin to 28-27 at halftime.
Del Norte took control in the third quarter, outscoring Eureka 15-9 in the period to take a 43-36 lead into the fourth quarter The Warriors then put the game away with a 14-4 run in the final period.
“I’m really proud of our guys,” Del Norte Head Coach Steve Mendolia said. “We played hard and we improved a lot over the course of the season.”
Mendolia said he was especially pleased with his team’s defense, which has been a work in progress all season.
“Our defense was really good today,” he said. “We limited them to one shot and we got some big stops when we needed them.”
The Warriors were led by senior guard Jesse Serna, who scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. Senior forward Gabe Stafford added 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior guard Brandon Jamison had 10 points and six assists. Senior center Isaacheimer Manu chipped in with eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
