The Blue Hens are set to take the court for the first time this season on Friday, November 10th. Here’s a look at what to expect from Delaware men’s basketball in 2017-2018.

Introduction

The Blue Hens will be looking to rebound from a disappointing 2016-17 season in which they failed to make the NCAA tournament They will be led by third-year Head Coach Martin Ingelsby and will look to a more experienced roster to help them get back to the dance.

The Team

The team is coached by Martin Ingelsby and includes twelve players. Three of these players are seniors, seven are juniors, one is a sophomore, and one is a freshman. The starting lineup consists of sophomores Brian Anderson and Kevin Anderson, junior Nate Darling, senior Ryan Daly, and freshman Justyn Mutts.

The Schedule

The non-conference slate is highlighted by games against NBA G-League teams with the Blue Coats paying a visit to the Bobcats on December 11th. Other games of note include a road matchup against the 2009 NCAA National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels on December 18th, and a Home game against in-state rivals, the University Of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens on December 21st. The Conference Schedule is jam-packed with 16 games in 28 days, including 5 back-to-backs. The season will conclude with a home game against Hofstra on March 6th.

The Conference

Delaware Men’s Basketball heads into conference play with a 5-6 record. They will be looking to improve on their 3-5 conference record from last season. The Blue Hens will have their work cut out for them as they play in the tough Colonial Athletic Association.

This season, the CAC is once again being led by Hofstra. The Pride are off to a great start with a 12-1 record and they have already beaten some good teams like Xavier and St. John’s. They will be the team to beat in the conference and Delaware will have to get past them if they want to win the CAA title.

The Blue Hens will also have to contend with other good teams in the conference like Towson, Drexel, and Northeastern. All three of these teams are near the top of the standings and Delaware will need to find a way to beat them if they want to have any chance of winning the conference.

The Blue Hens have a tough road ahead of them, but if they can string together some wins, they could find themselves in contention for the CAA title at the end of the season.
