On Tuesday night, the Drake Bulldogs men’s Basketball team broke the school record for most wins in a season, with their 27th victory of the year. The previous record was held by the 1969-70 team, which won 26 games.

The Bulldogs are now 27-4 on the season and have clinched at least a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title. They can win the title outright with a win on Saturday afternoon against Bradley.

This is the third straight season that Drake has won at least 25 games. The Bulldogs have also won 20 or more games in eight of the last nine seasons.

The Bulldogs held their opponents to an average of 60.5 points per game besting the previous record of 61.1 set by the 1968-69 team.

Head coach Darian DeVries credits the team’s success on defense to their commitment to hard work and to each other. “Our guys have bought in to what we’re trying to do,” DeVries said. “They’re Playing for each other and they’re playing tough.”

That toughness was on display in Drake’s final game of the regular season when they battled back from a 12-point deficit to defeat Missouri State and clinch the Missouri Valley Conference title. The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the conference tournament and, hopefully, a berth in the NCAA tournament

Drake’s Basketball team gave a record-setting performance on Tuesday night, racking up 31 assists in their 92-64 win over Missouri State

It was a true team effort, with five different players finishing in double figures in points. Freshman point guard Nick McGlynn led the way with 11 assists and no turnovers, while senior shooting guard Reed Timmer chipped in 10 points and 6 assists.

The Bulldogs have now set a new school record for assists in a season with 521, eclipsing the previous mark of 520 set back in 2002-03. They will look to build on this success as they head into the final stretch of the Regular Season and beyond.

Drake’s seniors finish their careers with a school-record number of wins

The Drake University men’s basketball team’s seniors have finished their careers with a school-record number of wins. The Bulldogs broke the previous record of 65 wins, set by the class of 2017, with a 66-64 victory over Bradley on Saturday.

The seniors on this year’s team are Te’Jon Lucas, Tramique Sutherland, Darian Brooks, Anthony Murphy and Joseph Yesufu. They have been key contributors to Drake’s success over the past four years, helping the team to a 104-40 record (.721 winning percentage) during their time in Des Moines

This season, Drake finished 28-4 overall and 15-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference The Bulldogs won their third straight MVC regular season title and made their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament They fell to USC in the first round of this year’s tournament.

The senior class leaves Drake as one of the most successful groups in program history. In addition to setting the record for wins, they also won three MVC Regular Season titles and made four trips to the NCAA tournament They will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best teams in Drake history.

Drake’s freshman class makes an immediate impact, sets new school record for wins

Drake’s freshman class of Jenna Brown, Becca Hittner, Maddie Monahan, and Sara Rhine came to Drake with one goal in mind – to win. And they did just that, setting a new school record for wins in a season with 30. The previous record was 28, set by the class of 2013.

With their hard work and dedication, the freshman class led Drake to its first Missouri Valley Conference regular season title and its first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 2008. The team’s success is a testament to the hard work of the entire team, but it would not have been possible without the contributions of the freshman class.

All four members of the freshman class played significant minutes for Drake this season, with Brown and Hittner starting all 33 games. Monahan and Rhine both averaged over 20 minutes per game off the bench. Brown was second on the team in scoring with 12.1 points per game while Hittner led the team in rebounding with 6.9 per game. Monahan was third on the team in assists with 2.4 per game, and Rhine was fourth on the team in steals with 1.3 per game.

The Drake Basketball Program has come a long way in recent years and the freshman class has played a major role in its success. With another year of experience under their belts, there is no telling what they will accomplish next year.
