Early Life

Ed Chang was born in Taiwan and moved to the United States when he was five years old. He did not start playing basketball until he was in high school but he quickly developed into a star player After graduating from high school Chang played for the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) for two years. He then transferred to the University of Southern California (USC), where he played for two more years.

During his time at USC, Chang was named the Pacific-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also set a school record for blocked shots in a season. In his senior year, Chang helped lead USC to the NCAA tournament Sweet Sixteen

After graduation, Chang was not selected in the NBA draft He briefly considered giving up basketball and pursuing a career in business. However, he decided to continue playing and signed with a professional team in Taiwan.

He began playing organized basketball in fifth grade, and quickly developed into one of the best players in his age group.

In high school Chang was a star player on the Varsity Basketball team, leading them to a League Championship freshman year. He garnered attention from college scouts with his hard work and tenacity on the court, but he was ultimately not recruited by any major Division I programs due to his lack of height. Instead, he accepted a scholarship to play for UC Irvine, a Division II school.

At UC Irvine, Chang continued to excel on the court. He helped lead the team to back-to-back conference championships and was named the conference Player of the Year as a senior. Despite not receiving much attention from NBA scouts due to his small stature, Chang’s hard work and determination paid off when he was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Chang’s NBA career was short-lived, however. He appeared in just four games for the Lakers before being waived by the team. He spent several years bouncing around between different professional leagues in Europe and Asia before finally calling it quits in 2019.
