There are many great basketball teams in the state of Ohio, but ESPN has ranked the top 10.

The number one team is the University of Cincinnati followed by Ohio State University the University of Dayton Wright State University, Xavier University Bowling Green State University Kent State University, Miami University Akron University, and Ohio University

These teams are all highly competitive and have a history of success. If you’re a fan of basketball in Ohio, you’ll want to keep an eye on these squads.

The top teams in the State

ESPN Ohio recently released its list of the top high school Basketball teams in the state. The list is comprised of ten teams each of which has a chance to make a run at the state championship this year.

The top team on the list is the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks. The Shamrocks are led by star guard Dushawn London, who is averaging 22 points per game Dublin Coffman has a tough schedule ahead, but they have the talent to make a deep run in the State Tournament

Coming in at number two is the Pickerington Central Tigers. The Tigers are led by big man Jesse Bates, who is averaging a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds per game Pickerington Central will have to contend with some tough competition in their region, but they have the talent to make a run at the state title.

Rounding out the top three is the Upper Arlington Golden Bears Upper Arlington is led by versatile forward Alec Fews, who is averaging 17 points and eight rebounds per game The Golden Bears have a tough road ahead, but they have the talent to compete with any team in the state.

We’ll start with a look at the team that is currently ranked #1 in the state, and then take a look at some of the other top teams in the state.

5. Upper Arlington (17-3) – The Golden Bears have been one of the most consistent teams in recent years and this season has been no different. They have losses to Dublin Coffman, Solon, and Pickerington North but they have also beaten some very good teams, including Thomas Worthington and Newark. They are led by junior Luke Kennard, who is averaging 22 points per game

4. Garfield Heights (19-1) – The Bulldogs’ only loss came to St. Edward in December, but they have rebounded nicely since then and have won 14 straight games. They don’t have any big-time wins on their resume, but they have been very consistent all season long Their two best players are senior guard Devin Oliver (17 points per game) and junior forward Kevaughn Ellis (15 points per game).

Verseillemire (21-0) – The Apaches are the only undefeated team in the state, and they have wins over some very good teams, including Toledo Whitmer, Columbus Northland, Dublin Coffman, and Lakewood St. Edward. They are led by senior guard Kaleb Wesson (18 points per game), who has signed with Ohio State

2. Stow-Munroe Falls (20-1) – The Bulldogs’ only loss came to a very good Garfield Heights team in December. Since then they have won 15 straight games and have beaten some good teams along the way, including Solon, Hudson, Walsh Jesuit and Copley. They are led by senior guard Seth Stephens (20 points per game), who has committed to Kent State University

In this fourth installment of our series on the top teams in the state, we will take a closer look at the team that comes in at number four on our list, the Cincinnati Bearcats

The Bearcats are led by Head Coach Mick Cronin, who is entering his ninth season at the helm of the program. Coach Cronin has guided the Bearcats to seven straight NCAA tournament appearances, and Cincinnati has won at least 20 games in each of the last six seasons. The Bearcats have also been consistently ranked in the AP Top 25 poll over the last few years, and they are currently ranked number 19 in the country.

While the Bearcats have not made it to the Final Four under Coach Cronin, they have made it to the Sweet Sixteen on three occasions, and they have won two conference championships during his tenure. Cincinnati has also produced a number of NBA players during Coach Cronin’s time at Cincinnati, including NBA All-Star guard Sean Kilpatrick.

The Bearcats will once again be one of the top teams in the state this season, and they will be looking to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament Cincinnati will have a good chance to make it back to the Sweet Sixteen this season, and if they can get hot at the right time, they could make a run at their first Final Four appearance since 1962.

1. Xavier Musketeers (13-2) – The Musketeers are currently riding a four-game Win Streak that includes victories over then-No. 10 Butler and then-No. 16 Creighton. They have one of the most balanced scoring attacks in the country, with eight players averaging between 9.0 and 13.7 points per game They also have one of the best Defensive Teams in the country, allowing just 60.5 points per game (third fewest in Division I).

2. Cincinnati Bearcats (13-2) – The Bearcats have won eight games in a row, including seven in a row against conference opponents. Their only two losses have come against Xavier and Butler (both ranked in the top 10 at the time), and they have wins over then-No. 21 Iowa State and then-No. 22 UCLA. They are led by junior guard Jacob Evans III, who is averaging 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (14-4) – The Buckeyes were one of the hottest teams in the country earlier this season, winning 11 games in a row from November 15th to January 3rd (including wins over then-No. 3 Michigan State and then-No. 5 Notre Dame). However, they have lost four of their last six games, including three straight against unranked opponents (Penn State Rutgers and Purdue). They are led by sophomore guard Keita Bates-Diop, who is averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game while shooting 48 percent from three-point range (second best in Division I).

4) Kent State Golden Flashes (15-3) – The Golden Flashes have won seven games in a row, including five against conference opponents. Their only losses have come against Power Five opponents Syracuse and Clemson, as well as mid-major power Dayton. They are currently second in Division I with an average of 89 Points per game and they are led by junior guard Jaylin Walker, who is averaging 21 points per game while shooting 43 percent from three-point range (seventh best in Division I).

5) Akron Zips (15-3) – The Zips have won eight games in a row overall and 12 straight against conference opponents dating back to last season. They rank fourth nationally with an average of 86 points per game, and they re shooting an impressive 40 percent from three-point range as a team (sixth best in Division I). Additionally, they boast one of the stingiest defenses around, allowing just 61 points per game (fourth fewest in Division I).
