GAC Basketball Standings for the 2020-2021 season

As of February 25, 2021, here are the GAC basketball standings for the 2020-2021 season:

1. University of Central Missouri – 12-1
2. Northwest Missouri State University – 11-2
3. Lincoln Memorial University – 10-3
4.UFV – 9-4
5. Pittsburg State University – 8-5
6. Truman State University – 7-6
7. Emporia State University – 6-7
8. Northwest Arkansas – 5-8

GAC teams ranked in the top 25

As of January 11th, 2021, the GAC currently has four teams ranked in the top 25 of the latest NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The poll is conducted by a panel of head coaches from NCAA Division II institutions.First place in the GAC is held by Southern Nazarene who is currently ranked at No. 9 with a 8-1 record. Second place is held by Oklahoma Baptist who is ranked at No. 11 with an 8-2 record. Harding University comes in at No. 23 with a 7-3 record and Arkansas Tech rounds out the top 25 rankings for the GAC with a 6-3record and are currently ranked at No. 24.

GAC teams with the most conference wins

The GAC has had many great basketball teams over the years. This season is no different, as there are several teams with a chance to win the conference championship

As of February 1st, the team with the most conference wins is the University of Central Missouri. They have a record of 13-3 in conference play Following closely behind is Northwest Missouri State University, who has a 12-4 conference record.

Other teams with a chance to win the conference title include Truman State University (11-5), Pittsburg State University (10-6), and Missouri Southern State University (9-7).

It should be an exciting end to the season as any of these teams could come out on top.

GAC teams with the best overall record

The GAC currently has 8 Basketball teams The teams are: Pitt State, UCM, Missouri S&T, Lincoln, Fort Hays State Washburn, Northeastern State, and Central Oklahoma.

The team with the best overall record is Pitt State. They have an overall record of 30-2.

The second best team is UCM with an overall record of 29-3.

The third best team is Missouri S&T with an overall record of 28-4.

GAC teams with the most losses

GAC teams with the most losses as of December 21, 2020 are as follows:
1. William Woods (2-8)
2. Graceland (3-7)
3. Hannibal-LaGrange (3-7)
4. Culver-Stockton (4-6)

GAC teams that failed to make the playoffs

Although the GAC is a conference in Division II of the NCAA, teams that failed to make the playoffs are ineligible for postseason play.

GAC teams that made a deep run in the playoffs

The GAC had several teams make a deep run in the playoffs this season. The teams that made it to the Elite Eight are:

-The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Trojans
-The University of Central Arkansas Bears
-The University of Missouri Kansas City Kangaroos

These three teams will be competing for a spot in the Final Four.

As of March 1st, the GAC teams that have won the National Championship are:
-The University of Central Arkansas
-Oklahoma Baptist University
-Southwest Baptist University

In order to be crowned the National Champion a team must win their conference tournament and then win the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament

GAC basketball history

The GAC began sponsoring men’s basketball in the 1981-82 season. The conference did not sponsor women’s basketball until the 1992-93 season. In June 1999, the conference announced it would add football and discontinue men’s soccer after the 1999 season. Football began play in the fall of 2000. In July 2000, Grove City College became a full member of the GAC, bringing conference membership to eighteen institutions.In 2006-07, St. Vincent (Pa.), Washington & Jefferson (Pa.), and Waynesburg (Pa.) joined the GAC as affiliate members in men’s swimming and diving only; those three schools did not join as full members of the GAC until 2007-08.

In September 2007, Pennsylvania State University – Fayette (now part of the Penn State System) announced that it would seek membership beginning with the 2008-09 academic year. In January 2008, Bethany College (W.Va.) announced that it would also seek membership in the GAC beginning in 2008-09. Both Fayette and Bethany were unanimously voted into membership by the existing conference members at the annual meeting on February 7, 2008; both schools became full members effective August 1, 2008.

After an absence of nearly thirty years, men’s soccer returned to the conference in 2009 with four charter members: Franciscan University of Steubenville (Ohio), Hiram College (Ohio), Thiel College (Pa.), and Westminster College (Pa.). Men’s soccer expanded to seven teams for 2010 with Allegheny College (Pa.), Dennison University (Ohio), and Grove City College joining as affiliate members; those three schools became full members effective August 1, 2010.
