Gonzaga Basketball is a men’s college Basketball team representing Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. The team competes in the West Coast Conference and plays their home games at the McCarthey Athletic Center on campus. The team is currently coached by Mark Few, who has been at Gonzaga since 1999.

Gonzaga Basketball has seen a great deal of success in recent years making the NCAA tournament 23 times since 1995 and advancing to the Sweet Sixteen 10 times since 1999. The team has also made the Elite Eight four times (1999, 2000, 2015, 2017) and the Final Four once (2017).

In 2017, Gonzaga had one of their best seasons in program history. The team finished 32-1 overall and 16-0 in conference play winning the West Coast Conference regular season and tournament titles. They then went on to win their first ever NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship defeating South Carolina 77-73 in the final.

Gonzaga Basketball has appeared in 28 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournaments Their combined record is 34–28. They have reached the Round of 32 thirteen times, the Sweet Sixteen six times, and the Elite Eight four times. In 2017, they advanced to their first ever Final Four. They were the national runners-up in 2017, losing to North Carolina in the National Championship Game. Gonzaga basketball – Notable Coaches

Gonzaga has had several notable coaches throughout its history. Dan Fitzgerald was the first coach to lead the team to a Division I NCAA Tournament berth when Gonzaga made the trip to the Dance in 1995. Few followed up Fitzgerald’s success, as the Bulldogs only returned to the NCAA tournament five more times in the next 20 years. That changed when Mark Few took over prior to the 1999-00 season.

In his 21 seasons at Gonzaga, Few has led the Bulldogs to 19 NCAA tournament appearances, including 16 in a row (1999-2016). His teams have won at least 30 games in 12 of those seasons, and Gonzaga has reached the Elite Eight three times (2001, 2015, and 2017) and the Sweet Sixteen six times under his watch. In 2017, Gonzaga finally broke through and made it to the Final Four for the first time in school history, though they ultimately fell short of their goal of winning a national title when they lost to North Carolina in the national semifinals.

The next biggest rivalry for Gonzaga Basketball is with Saint Mary’s College. The two schools are located just over an hour apart in northern California and both have very successful basketball programs They have been bitter rivals for many years and their games are always very intense.

Gonzaga also has a strong rivalry with BYU (Brigham Young University). The two schools are both members of the West Coast Conference and they have been battling for conference supremacy for many years. In addition, both schools are private universities with a strong Mormon presence, which add another layer to the rivalry.

Gonzaga basketball plays its home games at the McCarthey Athletic Center on the campus of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. The arena opened in 2004 and seats 6,000 fans for basketball games Gonzaga has sold out every Home game since the arena opened.

The McCarthey Athletic Center is named for alumni couple Scott and Joan McCarthey, who donated $10 million to the university in 2003. The center is also used by the university’s volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics teams.
