1. Ryan Steckenrider, RHP: A transfer from Vincennes University Steckenrider is a 6’7″ right-hander who will provide a boost to the Mastodons’ pitching staff. He had a successful 2015 campaign, posting a 9-3 record with a 3.47 ERA.

2. Josh Ferrell, LHP: Another transfer, Ferrell comes to IPFW from Ivy Tech Community College The 6’2″ left-hander was named the team’s Most Valuable Pitcher last season after going 10-1 with a 2.48 ERA.

3. Connor Echols-Luper, OF: Echols-Luper is a 6’4″ outfielder who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of OU franchise s collegeOKC A&M University but chose not to sign with the Cubs. He hit .364 with 11 home runs and 36 RBIs last season and will be one of the Mastodons’ top power hitters in 2016.

The Veterans to Watch This Season

This season, the IPFW Mastodons baseball team is led by a group of solid upperclassmen. With seniors Colin Rea, Trey Mavrich, and John Stockhoffer leading the charge, and juniors Steve Marino and Eric Snider not far behind, the team looks to rebound from last year’s disappointing 23-28 season.

Head coach Doug Schreiber has high hopes for his team this season, and with good reason. The core group of upperclassmen have been with the program for four years now, and they have seen both the highs and lows of Division I Baseball They will be looking to finish their careers on a high note, and they have the talent to do just that.

The IPFW baseball team plays their home games at Parkview Field, located in downtown Fort Wayne The team will be playing a total of 38 home games this season, with 27 of those games being played against conference opponents. Here is a look at some of the home games that you won’t want to miss this season.

March:
The team’s first Home game of the season is on March 3rd against the University of Michigan This will be the first time these two teams have faced each other since 2015, when Michigan won 3-2.

April:
IPFW will be playing 11 Home Games in April, with conference rivals such as Oakland University Detroit Mercy and Green Bay coming to town. On April 28th, the team will be hosting Milwaukee for what is sure to be an exciting game. Milwaukee is currently ranked #1 in the Horizon League and this will be the only time these two teams face each other this season.

May:
The Mastodons will close out their regular season at home with a three-game series against Illinois-Chicago from May 17th-19th. This will be a crucial series for both teams as they battle for position in the Conference Standings
