Early Life

Karl-Anthony Towns was born on November 15, 1995, in Edison, New Jersey to parents Karl Sr. and Jacqueline Cruz. Towns grew up with an older sister, Lachelle. As a youngster, Towns would often attend his father’s basketball games at Piscataway Technical High School and eventually began playing the sport himself.

In fifth grade, he was one of the tallest students in his class at 7’0″. By the time he entered high school at St. Joseph high school in Metuchen, New Jersey, he had grown to 6’7″. As a high schooler, Towns led his team to two State Championships while being named Gatorade Player of the Year twice (2012 and 2013). He was also selected to play in the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic in 2014.

High School Career

In his junior year, Towns averaged 20.9 points, 13.4 rebounds, 6.2 blocks, 3.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game for St. Joseph high school in Metuchen, New Jersey.[17] He was named the 2014 Gatorade National Player of the Year,[18][19] Naismith Prep Player of the Year,[20] USA Today high school Player of the Year,[21] and the Morgan Wooten National Player of the Year.[22] On January 31, 2014, he was named to the 2014 McDonald’s All-American Team [23] In February 2014, he participated in the 2014 Jordan Brand Classic where he scored 19 points and had 6 rebounds.[24] In April 2014, Towns led St. Joseph to their first state title in over 50 years with a 77–58 victory over Roselle Catholic high school in the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions final.[25][26]

College Career

Karl-Anthony Towns played one season of college basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats He was a key member of the team that won the NCAA championship in 2015. He averaged 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game during his college career.

Professional Career

Karl-Anthony Towns was selected with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves becoming the franchise’s third number one draft choice.
