Kenwood’s Basketball Program
Kenwood Academy, located on the South Side of Chicago, IL, is home to one of the most successful boys’ basketball programs in the state of Illinois. The team has won back-to-back State Championships and is currently ranked No. 1 in the state.
The team is led by Head Coach Robert Smith, who has been at the helm of the program for over 20 years. During his tenure, Coach Smith has led the team to a record of 872-180, making him the winningest coach in Kenwood history.
The team’s success is due in large part to its strong commitment to defense. Kenwood’s “D” has been lights out this season, holding opponents to an average of just 52 points per game

The Team’s History
Kenwood Academy’s basketball team has a long and successful history. The team has won four state championships and has produced numerous Division I college players. The team is currently coached by Michael Wilbon, who has been at the helm for five years.
The team’s success is due in large part to its commitment to player development Wilbon emphasizes skill development and game IQ over winning. This philosophy has resulted in players that are not only talented, but also well-rounded and prepared for the next level.

The Team’s Record
Kenwood High School’s basketball team is having an incredible season. They are currently 22-1 and ranked 4th in the state. They have only lost 1 game, which was to Simeon Career Academy who is ranked 1st in the state. Kenwood has some outstanding players includingra 6’5″ shooting guard junior Melez Leach who is averaging 16 points per game and a 6’7″ Power Forward senior Xavier Pinson who is averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game Kenwood’s next game is against Whitney Young high school on February 12th.
The Team’s Roster
The Kenwood high school basketball team is made up of twelve talented young men. The starting five are: point guard Tyler Brown, shooting guard Anthony Thomas, small forward Deandre Jackson, power forward Jalen Johnson and center Devontae Blanton. These five players have been playing together since they were freshmen and have developed a strong chemistry on the court. They are all very unselfish and always seem to make the right play. The bench is also very strong and has contributed to many wins this season.

The Team’s Coaching Staff
The head coach of the Kenwood Academy basketball team is Demarco Owens. He is in his sixth season as Head Coach Under Owens, the team has won four city championships and one state championship He has been named Coach of the Year five times.
The assistant coaches are Kevin Porter Michael Mitchell, and Andre Williams. Porter is in his first season as an Assistant Coach Mitchell is in his second season as an assistant coach Williams is in his third season as an assistant coach

Some people may not know this, but Kenwood Academy has one of the best basketball teams in the city. And, not only are they good, but their fans are amazing.
