This season, the Louisiana Tech men’s Basketball team is poised to make a run at the NCAA Tournament Led by Head Coach Eric Konkol, the Bulldogs have put together an impressive season so far, with a record of 23-4. But why La Tech? Why is this team making noise in the college basketball world?
There are a few reasons. First, La Tech has one of the best players in the country in sophomore guard JaColby Pemberton. Pemberton is averaging 18.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game and he has been a force on both ends of the court for the Bulldogs.
In addition to Pemberton, La Tech has a deep and talented roster. Konkol has been able to get production from multiple players, which has been key to the team’s success this season. Ten different Bulldogs are averaging at least 5.0 points per game and eight players are averaging double-figures in scoring.
Another reason for La Tech’s success is its defense. The Bulldogs are one of the best Defensive Teams in the country, allowing just 65.7 points per game (sixth in Division I). La Tech’s ability to get stops has been a big part of its success this season.

Since the late 1970s, La Tech has been a powerhouse in men’s College Basketball The Bulldogs have made the NCAA tournament 23 times, with their most recent appearance coming in 2019. Along the way, La Tech has produced some of the best players in the country, including NBA All-Stars Darryl Dawkins and Karl Malone
In recent years La Tech has fallen on hard times, missing the NCAA tournament three times in the last five years. However, under head coach Eric Konkol, the Bulldogs have begun to turn things around. In 2018-19, La Tech won 27 games and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015.
This season, La Tech is off to a hot start, winning 12 of its first 13 games. The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 24 in the AP Poll and appear to be on track for another NCAA tournament appearance. This season, La Tech was one of the last four teams to make it into the field of 68. They had to win their conference tournament just to get a chance to play in the big dance.
Now, as a 14 seed, they are facing off against a 3 seed in the first round. It is going to be a tough match-up, but if they can pull off the upset, anything is possible.
This is La Tech’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament in over a decade. They are eager to prove that they belong on the biggest stage in College Basketball

Looking ahead to next season, La Tech will have to replace two key starters in DaQuan Bracey and Amorie Archibald. Both were Seniors this past season and are now off to play Professional Basketball La Tech will also have to replace Derric Jean who graduated. The good news is that the team will have most of its core players returning. The team’s leading scorer, Mohammed Abraham, will be back along with Isaiah Crawford, Kalob Ledoux, and Andy Kennedy. La Tech will also add a few new faces to the mix with incoming freshmen TOTAL FRESHMEN. With a mix of experienced players and newcomers, La Tech will be looking to make another run at the NCAA Tournament next season!
