Long Land Sharks Baseball is back for another season! The team is currently in spring training preparing for the upcoming season The Sharks are a Minor League Baseball team that plays in the Atlantic League.

The team was founded in 1993, and they have been playing at the ballpark in Central Islip, New York, since 1998. The ballpark is located on the grounds of the former Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center.

The Sharks are currently affiliated with the New York Yankees and they play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. The team has seen some success over the years, winning the Atlantic League Championship in 2000 and 2010.

The Sharks are set to begin their season Thursday night at home against the Sugar Land Skeeters.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip.

Despite being an independent team, the Sharks have had some major leaguers on their roster over the years, including former New York Mets pitcher Nelson Figueroa and outfielder Jason Lane.

-Ryan Braun: The former MVP and six-time All-Star comes to the Sharks after a long career with the Milwaukee Brewers Braun is a perennial power hitter, and he’s sure to add some fireworks to the Sharks’ offense.

-Richie Martin: The Lions’ top prospect joins the Sharks as their starting shortstop. Martin is a highly touted Defensive Player and he should provide a steadying presence in the infield.

--Yasiel Puig One of baseball’s most controversial players, Puig comes to the Sharks after a turbulent few years with the Dodgers. Puig is an immensely talented player, but he’ll need to stay focused if he wants to reach his full potential on Long Island.

The Sharks are proud to announce their coaching staff for the upcoming season!

Head coach Joe has been with the team for 5 years and has led the team to 3 division championships. Coach Joe’s philosophy is that “every player has the potential to be great, and it’s our job as coaches to bring out that potential.”

Assistant coach Tom has been with the team for 2 years. He specializes in outfield and base-running drills.

Assistant coach Sarah is in her first year with the Sharks. She specializes in hitting instruction.

The sharks will be playing a total of 162 games this season. 88 of those games will be at home and 74 will be on the road. The home opener is on April 6th against the Norfolk Tides Some of the other highlight games include an 11 game road trip in late May/early June and a stretch of 20 Home Games in July.
