LSU basketball game previews
As the LSU Tigers get set to tip off their 2019-20 season we take a look at what to expect from Will Wade’s squad.
The Tigers are coming off a solid 2018-19 campaign in which they went 16-15 overall and 8-10 in SEC play. LSU did not make the NCAA tournament but they did make it to the NIT, where they lost in the first round to Louisiana State.
LSU will be looking to build on that success this season, and they will have a chance to do so with a relatively young team. The Tigers will have just two seniors on their roster in forward Skylar Mays and guard Marlon Taylor.
Nonetheless, LSU has plenty of talent and they should be in contention for an NCAA Tournament berth once again. Here are three things to watch for as the Tigers embark on their 2019-20 season:
1) How will Will Wade utilize his talented backcourt?
The Tigers have one of the best backcourts in the SEC with Skylar Mays and Tremont Waters leading the way. Both players are capable scorers and playmakers, and it will be interesting to see how Wade chooses to utilize them.
2) Can Shareef O’Neal make an impact as a freshman?
Shareef O’Neal, son of NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, is one of the most highly touted freshmen in the country. The 6-foot-9 forward is expected to make an immediate impact for LSU, and he could be the key piece that helps put them over the top.
3) How will LSU fare on the road?
The Tigers had some struggles away from home last season, going just 4-6 in SEC road games. If they want to take another step forward this season, they will need to improve their play away from home.
