Nelson was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants out of high school He played in the minor leagues for six years before making his Major League debut on September 1, 2016, with the Giants. In 2017, he played in 31 games for the Giants, batting .273/.375/.514 with three home runs and 11 RBIs.
