The Baseball MVPs of 2019

It’s that time of year again! Time to hand out the hardware to the best players in baseball Who were the MVPs of the 2019 season?

Mike Trout- Los Angeles Angels

Outfielder Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels was unanimously voted the American League Most Valuable Player for 2019, edging Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman by two points in the balloting by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
This is the third MVP for Trout, 27, who also won in 2014 and 2016. He joins an elite group of players who have won at least three MVP Awards before their 28th birthday, joining Hank Aaron Mike Schmidt Frank Robinson and Schmidt again. Trout is the 11th player to win three MVP Awards before turning 28. He led the majors in Slugging percentage (.660), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.083) and walks (122) while hitting 45 home runs and driving in 104 runs.

Alex Bregman- Houston Astros

Alex Bregman had an outstanding season for the Houston Astros leading them to another World Series appearance. He was particularly clutch in the postseason, batting .296 with two home runs and six RBIs in the World Series Bregman is one of the best young players in baseball, and he is a deserving MVP Award winner.

Christian Yelich- Milwaukee Brewers

Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich has been named the NL MVP for 2019. Yelich is the first Brewer to win the award since Ryan Braun in 2011. Yelich was a force to be reckoned with all season, batting .329 with 44 home runs and 97 RBIs.

Cody Bellinger- Los Angeles Dodgers

Cody Bellinger was born on July 13, 1995, in Scottsdale, Arizona. He is an American Baseball outfielder and first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He stands 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) tall and weighs 210 pounds (95 kg).Bellinger was drafted by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. He made his MLB debut in 2017 and won the National League Rookie of the Year Award In 2019, he became the first Dodger to be named National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) since Clayton Kershaw in 2014.

Ronald Acuna Jr.- Atlanta Braves

Ronald Acuna Jr. had an outstanding season for the Atlanta Braves and was a big reason why they made it to the playoffs. Acuna Jr. hit .280 with 41 Home Runs and 101 RBIs, and also stole 37 bases. He was one of the most well-rounded players in baseball, and is a deserving MVP.

Anthony Rendon- Washington Nationals

Anthony Rendon played a vital role in the Washington Nationals’ World Series victory this year, and his stellar performance throughout the regular season has earned him the title of 2019 National League Most Valuable Player The third baseman had a batting average of .319, with 34 home runs and 126 RBIs. He also led all Major League players with a .412 on-base percentage

Freddie Freeman- Atlanta Braves

Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves was unanimously voted the National League Most Valuable Player on Thursday, making him the first player at his position to win the award in 22 years.

The 30-year-old first baseman led the Major Leagues in hits (191), home runs (38) and RBIs (121) while batting .295. He also had a career-high .948 OPS and was second in the NL with 52 doubles.

J.D. Martinez- Boston Red Sox

This past season, J.D. Martinez had a historic year, hitting .304 with 43 home runs and 130 RBIs. He led the Major Leagues in RBIs and was second in home runs Martinez also had a 1.031 OPS, which was the best mark in baseball. For his performances, he was named the American League MVP.

Xander Bogaerts- Boston Red Sox

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts was one of the most consistent hitters in baseball in 2019. He set career highs in batting average (.311), home runs (33), and RBIs (117) while helping lead the Boston Red Sox to a World Series title. For his efforts, Bogaerts was named one of the three AL MVPs, along with Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros

Nelson Cruz- Minnesota Twins

The 2019 Major League Baseball season is underway and there are already a few players who are standing out as MVP candidates. One of those players is Nelson Cruz of the Minnesota Twins Cruz is off to a great start this season, batting .311 with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs. He has also been very consistent, posting a .311 batting average in April, .305 in May, and .360 so far in June. Not only is he one of the best hitters in the league, but he’s also been very clutch for the Twins this season. In late-game situations, Cruz has batted .400 with two outs and runners in scoring position.

Cruz isn’t the only player having a great season for the Twins. Star third baseman Miguel Sano is also putting up MVP-caliber numbers. Sano is batting .277 with 13 home runs and 32 RBIs. He’s also been very consistent, posting a .276 batting average in April, .273 in May, and .308 so far in June.

Pitchers don’t usually win MVP awards, but Twins starter Jake Odorizzi is making a case for himself this season. Odorizzi is 5-2 with a 2.16 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 84 innings pitched He’s also been very consistent, posting a 2.48 ERA in April, 2.05 in May, and 1.96 so far in June.

The Twins are off to a great start this season thanks to the play of their three MVP candidates: Nelson Cruz, Miguel Sano, and Jake Odorizzi. If they can keep up this pace, they could be headed for a deep playoff run.
