Get to Know the MCC Baseball Roster

The Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) Baseball Team is made up of student athletes who have a passion for the game and the determination to succeed both on and off the field. The team is young but has huge potential, with a mix of veterans and newcomers. Here is a closer look at the 2019 roster.

David Perez – Senior infielder/pitcher
Perez is a four-year starter who has been an integral part of the program, both on and off the field. He is a two-way player who will see time at both shortstop and pitcher this season. Perez is also a two-time All-Minnesota State Academic Team honoree and was named MCTC’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2018.

Austin Hurley – Sophomore outfielder
Hurley is a talented young player who had a breakout freshman season, hitting .340 with five home runs and 30 RBI. He was named to the All-Region XIII team and was an honorable mention All-Minnesota State selection. Hurley will be counted on to provide leadership and production in the middle of the lineup this season.

Cole Anderson – Freshman pitcher/infielder
Anderson joins the team as a freshman this season after an outstanding career at Minnetonka High School He was named All-Conference and All-State as a senior while also being named a Mr. Baseball finalist. Anderson will be looked to as both a pitcher and infielder this season as he looks to make an immediate impact on the team.

The mercury is climbing, the days are getting longer, and that can only mean one thing: baseball season is upon us! Here at Monroe Community College we are gearing up for another exciting season of Panther Baseball But before the first pitch is thrown, let’s take a moment to get to know the 2019 MCC baseball roster

We have 12 returning players from last year’s squad, and they are joined by 11 newcomers. Our team is made up of student-athletes from all over the country, including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

led by second-year Head Coach Steve sense look to improve upon last year’s 19-19 record. Coach sense will have plenty of talent and experience to work with as the Panthers return six position starters and eight pitchers from last year’s team.

We are excited to see what this year’s squad can do on the diamond and we hope you’ll come out and support them!

-Mike: Mike is a sophomore second baseman from Hazlet, New Jersey. He’s been playing baseball since he was five years old and he loves being part of a team. Mike is an excellent student and he’s looking forward to helping the MCC team win a conference championship
-Joe: Joe is a freshman pitcher from Wall, New Jersey. He started playing baseball when he was eight years old and he’s been hooked ever since. Joe is a hard worker on and off the field and he’s excited to see what he can accomplish as part of the MCC baseball team
-Jimmy: Jimmy is a freshman outfielder from Neptune, New Jersey. He started playing baseball when he was six years old and he’s always loved the game. Jimmy is a talented player with a great work ethic. He’s looking forward to helping the MCC Baseball Team win games and have a lot of fun doing it.
-Tommy: Tommy is a sophomore catcher from Colts Neck, New Jersey. He started playing baseball when he was seven years old and he’s always loved being part of a team. Tommy is an excellent student and he’s looking forward to helping the MCC Baseball team win games and have a great season.

Alex Aponte – Center Field

A native of Puerto Rico Alex Aponte is a sophomore center fielder for the MCC baseball team He is a quick and agile player with a strong arm, and is known for his hustle on the field. Alex is majoring in business administration at MCC, and plans to transfer to a four-year school after graduation.

Nate Andrews – Pitcher

Nate Andrews is a freshman pitcher from Nashua, New Hampshire. He has been playing baseball since he was four years old, and has been on varsity since his sophomore year of high school Nate chose to attend MCC because of its strong academics and competitive athletics. He plans to study engineering at MCC, and hopes to pitching professionally after graduation.

Pitcher Jackson Simpson is a returning player from last year’s team. He is from Omaha and went to Burke high school

Shortstop Sam Bartlett is from Iowa City and attended West High School He is one of two freshmen on the team.

Center fielder Nate Nordness is from Grand Island Nebraska and graduated from Gibbon high school Nordness was named MCC Male Athlete of the Year for 2016-17 for his accomplishments on the baseball field and in the classroom.

Right fielder Jordon \r\n Tinker is from Bellevue, Nebraska and went to Bellevue West high school Tinker has been on the MCC baseball team for two years.

Catcher Tony Martinez comes to MCC from Fremont, Nebraska and attends Midland University Martinez has been with the Blue Blazers for one season.

The Midland Community College (MCC) Baseball team is composed of student-athletes who attend MCC and play baseball for the school.

The team is made up of 27 players, all of whom have either two years of college eligibility remaining or have completed their eligibility. 23 of the 27 players are from Michigan.
