McNeese Basketball A Program on the Rise
Since Steve Gleason took over as Head Coach of the Mcneese Cowboys basketball team in 2016, the program has undergone a major resurgence.
In his first season at the helm, Gleason led the Cowboys to a 20-12 record, their first winning season in 10 years. The Cowboys also made their first appearance in the postseason since 2006, losing to eventual Southland conference tournament champion New Orleans in the first round.
The following season, Gleason guided the Cowboys to a 21-11 record and their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1999. Mcneese was defeated by eventual National Champion Virginia in the first round.
Gleason has continued to build upon the success of his first two seasons, leading the Cowboys to a 23-9 record and another trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2019. Mcneese again lost in the first round, this time to Texas Tech
