The Official Michigan hockey Schedule: The History
The Michigan Hockey Schedule has been a point of contention for many years. The most recent change to the schedule came in 2014, when Michigan switched from playing two games against each of its six conference rivals to playing three games against each rival. This change was made in an effort to create a more equitable and competitive schedule.
The current Michigan Hockey Schedule is the result of many years of changes, tweaks, and adjustments. The history of the schedule is a long and complicated one, dating back to the early days of collegiate hockey.
One of the earliest examples of the Michigan Hockey Schedule dates back to 1910, when Michigan played eight games against conference opponents. This schedule was in place for just two seasons before being abandoned in favor of a more traditional home-and-away format.
In 1922, the conference expanded to include ten teams and Michigan again adjusted its schedule accordingly. The Wolverines played each conference opponent twice at home and twice away, for a total of sixteen games. This format remained in place for nearly two decades until 1940, when the conference once again expanded – this time to twelve teams.
In response to the expansion, Michigan increased its number of conference games from sixteen to eighteen. The Wolverines also began playing non-conference opponents on a more regular basis. This increased number of non-conference games eventually led to the creation of the Great Lakes Invitational tournament in 1965 – an event that is still held annually today.
The current Michigan hockey schedule is the result of many years of changes and adjustments. minor tweaks have been made over the years, but the overall format remains largely unchanged since 1940.
The Official Michigan hockey schedule The Tradition
The Official Michigan Hockey Schedule is one of the most popular and celebrated traditions in college hockey Every year, fans from all over the country come to Ann Arbor to watch their favorite team take on some of the best teams in the country. The schedule is always packed with big games, and the atmosphere at Yost Ice Arena is electric.
The Official Michigan Hockey Schedule The Future
The official Michigan Hockey schedule for the 2017-2018 season has not been released yet. However, we do know that the Wolverines will open their season on October 6th against Alabama Huntsville They will then have a bye week before resuming play against Notre Dame on October 13th and 14th. The first half of their season will be spent mainly on the road, as they won’t return home to Ann Arbor until November 10th when they take on Yale. Some of their other notable games include match-ups against North Dakota Boston College Minnesota, and of course their annual “Big Chill at the Big House” game against Michigan State
The Official Michigan Hockey schedule The Legacy
The Official Michigan hockey schedule better known as the “Legacy”, was first introduced in 1998. The brainchild of then-head coach Red Berenson the Legacy was intended to be a tribute to Michigan’s storied hockey history. It has since become one of the most iconic and polarizing features of the program.
On the surface, the schedule is a thing of beauty. Each season, Michigan plays 18 games against some of the best teams in college hockey The games are spread out evenly over the course of the season, and there is always at least one Home game on each weekend.
However, the schedule is not without its critics. Some have argue that it is too easy, and that Michigan does not play enough tough opponents. Others have complained that it is too predictable, and that there is no sense of excitement or anticipation when looking at the schedule months in advance.
At the end of the day, whether you love it or hate it, there is no denying that the Official Michigan Hockey Schedule is one of a kind.
