Introducing the team
In 2018, the Miles College baseball team made history. For the first time in the program’s existence, they won the Southern collegiate athletic conference (SIAC) Tournament Championship And, they followed that up with an appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament, earning a win against Florida Southern in their opening game. It was a season to remember for the team and their fans.
But for Head Coach Michael Tompkins, it was just the beginning. In his second season at the helm of the program, Coach Tompkins has his sights set on even bigger goals. “Our goal is to win a National Championship ” he said. “That’s what we’re working towards every day.”
With a young team that is only getting better with each game, that goal may not be as far-fetched as it might seem. The team is led by a core group of talented sophomores who are already making an impact at the collegiate level. Outfielder/pitcher Jordan Benson was named SIAC Player of the Year and First Team All-American after hitting .325 with 15 home runs and 43 RBI last season. He’s joined by fellow sophomores Jordon Farmer (.274 avg, 3 HR, 24 RBI) and Rodney Mitchell (6-1, 2.45 ERA) who were both named to the All-SIAC second team.
