As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, thoughts turn to…baseball! The 2021 Minnesota State Baseball Tournament is just around the corner, and we wanted to take a moment to get to know the teams that will be competing this year.

The Burnsville Blaze are the defending champions in Class AAAA, and they’ll be looking to make it back-to-back titles this year. The Blaze are led by senior pitcher JackMorrison, who has been nothing short of dominant this season. Morrison has an ERA of just 0.77, and he’s struck out an incredible 103 batters in just 66 innings pitched Burnsville will be a force to be reckoned with in this year’s tournament.

In Class AAA the Mankato West Scarlets are the team to watch out for. The Scarlets are led by junior catcher Henry Larson, who is batting a staggering .476 this season. Larson has also been terrific behind the plate, throwing out 14 would-be base-stealers. Mankato West will be looking to win their first state title since 2015.

Class AA is wide open this year, but the Rocori Spartans have as good a chance as any team to take home the championship. The Spartans are led by senior outfielder Brady Wiederhoeft, who is batting .402 with four home runs and 19 RBIs. Rocori will need Wiederhoeft to be at his best if they want to win their first state title since 2006.

In Class A, it’s the New York Mills Eagles who are flying high heading into the tournament. The Eagles are led by junior pitcher Joe Mauer who has been sensational this season with an ERA of just 1.17 and 103 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched. New York Mills will be looking for their first state title since 2004.
