A look ahead to next season – what the Montana Tech men’s basketball team will be looking to accomplish next season.
It’s hard to believe, but the 2017-2018 college Basketball season is just around the corner. That means it’s time to start looking ahead to what the Montana Tech men’s basketball team will be looking to accomplish next season.
The Orediggers are coming off a historic campaign in which they won their first ever Frontier Conference regular season title and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament. Although they lost in the Opening Round of the tournament, the experience gained by that young team will no doubt be invaluable as they look to take the next step next season.
The biggest question facing the team next season is who will replace all-conference guard Marcus Stephens, who graduated after last season. Stephens was not only the team’s leading scorer (17.1 points per game), but he was also their emotional leader and best Defensive Player His departure leaves a big hole to fill, but there is no shortage of candidates on the roster who are ready to step up and fill that void.
Sophomores Isaiah Palmer and Mack Johnson are two players who are expected to see their roles increase next season. Both saw significant playing time last season and showed flashes of brilliance at times. They will need to be more consistent if they want to help lead this team back to the NCAA tournament
Another player to keep an eye on is junior college transfer Kobe Williams. Williams is a 6’5” guard who has a reputation as a prolific scorer. He should provide an instant offensive boost and will be counted on to help shoulder some of the scoring load left behind by Stephens.
The Montana Tech men’s Basketball team has high aspirations for next season and with good reason. They have all the pieces in place for another deep run in the NCAA tournament Make sure you don’t miss out on any of the action – it promises to be another exciting year of Oredigger basketball!
