Introduction

It’s no secret that some NBA players are more beloved than others. But just how disliked are the league’s most hated players? We took a look at social media data to find out which player is the most hated in each state.

We analyzed over 1.5 million public tweets about NBA players from January 1, 2017 to April 10, 2017. To measure how much people disliked each player, we looked at the ratio of negative to positive tweets about each player. For example, if 10% of tweets about a player were negative and 90% were positive, that player would have a ratio of 0.1. The higher the ratio, the more hated the player is. We then mapped these ratios to see which player is most hated in each state.
