The Mountain West Women’s Basketball Tournament is Coming in 2022
The Mountain West Women’s Basketball Tournament is an annual collegiate women’s Basketball Tournament that is sanctioned by the Mountain West Conference (MW). The tournament was first held in the 1998-1999 season. It is currently held at the end of the regular season in early March, and the Championship game is broadcast on ESPN2.
The tournament consists of all eleven conference teams. The top five teams receive a first-round bye, while the remaining six teams play in the first round. The tournament uses a standard single-elimination format.

--Boise State Broncos The Broncos have won four of the last five Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament titles and are currently the reigning champions. --Fresno State Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are currently second in the Conference Standings and have won two Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament titles (in 2016 and 2017). They are also one of only two teams (along with Boise State) to have won multiple tournament titles since the conference was founded in 1999.
--Utah State Aggies: The Aggies are currently third in the conference standings and have made it to at least the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament in each of the last five years. They have also won one tournament title (in 2019).

The History of the Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MWC) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the Western United States It participates in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The MWC’s football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS; formerly Division I-A), while its men’s and women’s Basketball teams compete in Division I.
The conference was founded on July 1, 1999, with nine members: Colorado State University Brigham Young University the University of Utah the University of New Mexico, San Diego State University, UNLV, and Wyoming. The United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy subsequently joined the conference as non-football members on August 24, 2020.
With historical ties to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC), the MW has roots back to 1938. Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, it is one of two conferences to be based in that city. The other is its successor conference, the Big Sky Conference Following realignment from 2010 to 2013 triggered by BYU’s departure to join what is now known as the West Coast Conference and Boise State and San Diego State football programs moving up from Division I-AA (now FCS) to join the MW. The MW added Utah State University (USU) on July 1, 2013; primarily for football but all sports were included.
