The National Basketball Association (NBA) is an American Professional Basketball league. The league is truly global, with games and programming in 215 countries and territories in 47 languages. The NBA is also unique among major professional sports leagues in that it relies heavily on television for its revenue. In the United States the NBA has been broadcast on television since 1954. Currently, games are shown on five broadcast networks: ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV. The league also has a digital rights agreement with Turner Sports, which allows games to be shown online through the Turner-owned Bleacher Report website.

The NBA Finals are the most-watched basketball games of the year, and are among the most-watched annual sporting events in the world. In 2017, the Finals were watched by an average of 20 million viewers in the United States alone. This made them the most-watched NBA Finals since 1998.

Despite its global reach, the vast majority of the NBA’s revenue still comes from within the United States In 2016-17, for example, 82% of the league’s $7 billion in total revenue came from within the US. This is due in large part to the fact that most of the league’s television contracts are with US-based networks such as ABC, ESPN, and TNT.
