The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament is a single-elimination tournament held each spring in which 68 college basketball teams from across the country compete for the National Championship

In order to be eligible to compete in the tournament, a team must have an acceptable record as determined by the NCAA Selection Committee.

The selection process is evaluation of many factors, including Strength of Schedule number of losses, quality wins, etc.

Once the field of 68 teams is selected, they are seeded from 1 to 16 in each of four regions.

The top seed in each region is given preferential treatment in the form of playing closer to home and facing weaker opposition.

The tournament culminates with the Final Four, which features the last four teams standing.
